Most Expensive Coral I Own

Well....want to see what a $280 coral looks like? It looks like this....

Ok here's the story. A person in my LRC (Local Reef Club) had some Orange Montipora Capicornus for sale, and she didn't live but 25-35 minutes away from me so I made the drive to pick it up. I pick up the coral and I take the BACK ROADS to get home. So I am driving down the road, no one in front, no one behind. The road is black toped, so it's nice and smooth. Then I notice that the bag is leaking alittle. So I speed up, being only 15-20 minutes away from my house. The speed limit is 55 on this particular road. And guess who is hiding out in the middle of NO WHERE....that's right....a cop. Not just any cop, a STATE TROOPER. So needless to say, I got a ticket. Guess how fast I was going? 81 MPH (that's what he clocked me at, I think i was doing 90 just a few miles back). So I get a speeding ticket for 26 miles over the posted speed limit. $260 thank you very much! I am lucky he didn't cuff me because Louisiana law says that if the driver of a motor vehicle excedes the speedlimit by 25 MPH, that is grounds for an arrest.

The coral only cost me $20, but after trying to save it (the bag was leaking), I get slamed with $260 debit.....That's a whole damn pay check for a collage kid (in the summer time).

Just had to vent....

So can I sell the frags, when it grows out, for $50 per square inch? :D

What could I call it....people are willing to pay big money for corals with unscientific names!!! :lmao:

I was pulled over last year while bringing home a bunch of live rock. When the state trooper asked what my hurry was, I said I had to get my live rock home. He instantly wanted to see the "rocks". Thankfully he stopped short of the cavity search.

Thats a nice coral, i guess it was worth it, and good thing you didnt get arrested :D

Yeah, good thing. The coral would have died. (No travis, don't think about youself!)

:lmao:

Too bad about the ticket, but two things to be thankful for; not being arrested and a really pretty coral.

Lucky for me in my story, I ended up still paying less that what I would've paid retail.

There was a huge frag swap comming up with multiple clubs and I haven't had my membership renewed in a while so I signed up again since I just got back into the hobby ($25). I get to the frag swap, and see people are selling small items such as big tubes of glue, putty, etc at a good price. Silly me forgot to bring cash so I rushed to the local convinience store and lo and behold, I forgot my ATM card. I had to use my credit card to get $20 cash which I later found out charged me a $10 service fee. I get back to the swap, it begins, everyone having a good time, then someone comes into the room annoucing there's a police officer giving out citations for parking along the road which many people were parked along. About 30 people rush to their cars to check if they've been caught. Since I left to get cash, I parked last in the line of cars so I was the first hit. Total citation was $45. So the total cost for the frag swap: $80 . Total bounty: 2 mini colonies, about 6 frags of SPS and zoos so I'd say it was worth it, but those damn fees here and there . ..argh.
