hey everyone,

A good friend of mine is moving to Florida and decided to give me his 125 gallon tank....SCORE!!! Here's the problem/confusion I have, first....I have to built a stand/ canopy for the tank which will take some time. I just dismantled my 55 gallon brackish tank and are going to convert it into a sump/ Refugium for the 125.

I belive he has a trigger and a few other fish in the tank plus alot of live sand/live rock....How can/should I keep everything alive while I get the stand/canopy built.

ALL ADVICE / HELP IS WELCOME....AND THANKS IN ADVANCE

EJ

You can move the tank empty except for the sand and just enough water to keep it covered and wet.
Keep the water from the tank if possible and refil the tank with it, set it on the floor, put the filter, heater and some kind of light over it until you get your stand and canopy built.
That way the sand will stay alive and anything else that you got with it.
Being on the floor won't hurt it until you get it all done.
Use new trash cans for the water .
Good luck with your move and congrats on the score.:)

You will be lucky to save the fish.
Try to sell them to a LFS and get some cash/credit.
Your tank will cycle again and even though it is a fairly large tank,
will go through a series of New tank syndrome spikes.
Good Luck.

You can likely move the tank and keep the animals, but it's always a bit of a gamble. Setting the tank on a level floor should work. When you move, try to keep everything (including the live rock) in water and at temperature (insulated containers, if possible). I'd mix up a bunch of extra saltwater for changes, and have some Amquel Plus on hand.

I suspect you'll have to remove the sand from the tank as well, if there is any.

here's the thing thou,

the 55 gal is getting dropped off today to covert it to sump/ref.
The 125 tank is not drilled either, when i get it it will also be dropped of to drill the back for drains/ returns.

Well, you should be able to keep the live rock in tubs with heaters and powerheads. I'd give away the fish or find a temporary home, but that might work for them.
