Moving to Utah, not sure what I will do about my tanks.

Right now I'm sitting in my motel room in Ogden, Utah trying to figure out what to do about my tanks (75 & 58). I'm originally from Colorado, so I am almost back home now. I was offered a substantial raise to move, so I gave my 2 week notice and hit the road last Thursday. I'm moving into a studio apt on Monday because it's a lot cheaper than continuing to stay in a motel.

The wife is still at our house in Hazelwood taking care of the 2 reef tanks and doing a good job so far (I've been gone a week). I hope our house can sell quickly so that we can buy another home soon and that I don't end up having to sell all of my live rock, sand and livestock if the house doesn't sell for a while.

If I do end up having to sell some stuff, I guess I could sell my fish and corals, maybe buy a 125, ship my rock and sand out here and not have to start from scratch. I have 120 lbs of Kaelini in my 75 and 80 lbs of some nice Indonesian rock with a variety of Macroalgaes and tons of bugs in the 58. There's about 250 lbs of CaribSea Oolitic in the 2 tanks.

Thing is there isn't one thing in my tanks that I would want to part with and I hope things will all come together so I don't have to sell anything. My son is in school until the end of May and we hope the house can sell by then so that they can move out here when school is over. Sure makes it a lot more complicated with my reef tanks in the picture.

All that said, it's nice to be back in the Rockies again.

gateb, i buy homes as-is for all cash, if that would be of interest to you & wife & son could stay til school is out & you would have the $$ from the sale to get started there. pm if interested.

thanks

Looks like my laptop crashed and it won't boot. Anyway Arsenal, you can call my wife at removed. I'm using the computer in the hotel lobby right now and I have to get to work. They don't have my computer set up at work yet, so just get in touch with my wife. Thanks, Bryan.

gateb I'd really recommend editing your post to remove the address & probably the phone number as well, and send them to Arsenal in a PM, considering the other info you give in your posts. You never know who might be lurking.

I tried, but it won't let me delete or edit it. We have 2 large dogs that are very territorial will bite strangers with no provocation whatsoever. We have to put them outside when kids come over. A Hazelwood policman lives next door and another lives 2 houses down the block. Also we are only half a block from the police station, so she should be OK. But you're right that I should have been more careful. I couldn't get the PM to work on this hotel computer for some reason.

If you need temp homes for any fish or livestock to be shipped while setting up a new tank, Im sure some members would be willing to help out. You could also try making contact with one of the LFS you do business with regularly. They may be able to setup some temp housing and ship them to you safely while you get your live rock/sand acclimating and cycling in Utah. Could be a bit risky, but if your heart is set on keeping any of your livestock it may be the best way to go.

I have a 20g quarantine tank that I could house a few in for the short term if you need it. I'd have to look into how the shipping is packed for weather though - I think styrofoam boxes with either heat or cold packs is the norm, and sent overnight. Send me a PM if you decide to go this route. I'd be glad to help out. :) I know if I moved I'd be a wreck having to give up my fish - they're like family to me.
