MTC skimmer club!

Sweet

I noticed it spun better in one direction over the other and positioned it that way.

So far that's my favorite setup. Back down slightly to pulling ~147 watts, ~26scfh, and now I know the Flow! I was guessing around 300s but its landing around 245gph so far.

I'm actually quite impressed with the accuracy of the Watts pulled. Its wavering between 145-147 and mainly staying between 146-147. Will see how that flow reacts now over time. I wish I had this setup from the beginning but it just came out. I'll have to swap stuff around again just to see. I bet the dual 584s is closer to that 300gph.

Do you know what is the brand of unions Neptune uses? I'm getting ready to order the FMK, but I'd like to be able to pull the meters offline and have a replacement section to put in its place. I've learned the hard way that different manufacturers of unions aren't always compatible with each other.

Neptune is going to sell them soon once they get caught up on orders. I'm not sure what brand and I've asked on their forums and they haven't said. Some people have guessed.

FYI there is a direction molded on the back side. And apparently there's a video explaining that which I haven't watched.

I'll be able to let you know next week sometime. I have the dcp 18000 on order. I have no plans on turning it way down.
The shutoff on that pump is impressive. I'm curious to see what type of results you get with it.
I have a 55" (38" body, 14" neck) recirc dual venturi. Venturis are fed by a Blue Line 40. Each venturi draws about 16 scfh. I have a 3 foot extension for the skimmer, but the air draw drops way off when I use the extension. I've thought about replacing the Blue Line with either an Iwaki 55 or 100 I have laying around, but the Blue Line is plumbed with sched 40 fittings into the skimmer. And the plumbing is a work of art. I'd really hate to go and try to retro a different sized pump and ruin their work, if there would even be enough room.
I've been thinking about replacing the skimmer's feed with another venturi. I was thinking of using one of the 784's I have laying on the shelf. I was going to use a Mag 24 I have, but I may just wait to see how the Jaebo works for you.

I just got both the DCP15000 and 18000 and will try on my skimmer! Will compare flow rate, watts drawn, and air draw vs. a waveline dc 12000 apex ready pump.

Looks like there's also a dcp 20000 according to the manual.

I'm extremely thrilled these came with pvc slip adapters. That's awesome.

I'm not sure China understands inches. lol

I'm trying to get to 1" and looks like the 1.5" included fitting is 1.5" on the outside but seems slightly bigger.

1 1/2" coupler doesn't fit on the 1 1/2" slip fitting included. But a 1 1/4" bushing fits inside.

So, that lines up with standard schedule 40 size for 1 1/4" pvc with outside diameter around 1.6"

So weird....

It's pretty awesome even if it's max flow or head isn't 100% accurate.

I find it quieter then the waveline dc12000 when I first ran it but the waveline did quiet down a lot over a few weeks to being almost silent at 100%.

I'm impressed it can go up in 1% increments from 30% to 100%. And I really like it gives how many watts are being pulled by the pump. Killawatt is higher from the wall.

Here's a quick first look and going to run the pump at 100% to get a good running average so these numbers will most likely change a bit over time but not by very much.

With that much flow and air draw I'm afraid its going to be a bit much but will see. I have the water line way down and its pushing up some nice dry foam so that's promising.

Looks like at 100% power flow is settling in at around 290gph but nothing else really changed. The controller keeps flipping between 129-130 watts delivered to the pump, Apex says 150watts draw at the outlet, Killawatt says 152 so that went down a bit and air draw ~30scfh. And I'm still seeing some really nice dry foam. I haven't cleaned out the collection cup yet and will let things break in a few days and reset and see how production is.

Previous numbers.

Is your water line about 1" below the quick disconnect cup? Its kinda hard to see... ( actually in the acrylic cylinder )

I run my water line some where in the middle of they grey, quick disconnect cup.I don't get that dark nasty build up in the cup. But I get a drip into waste collector about every 3-4 seconds, which gives me about 4 -5 cups a day of dark green to brown waste.

It was in that picture with the DCP 18000. Late last night and this morning, with out doing any adjustments, that water line has raised to right were the flange is. So, it's breaking in the new pump which is why I wait to let that happen before I start tracking production rate.

My skimmate is alwasy a very nasty very dark/black color. I have a lot of fish and feed a lot which is what I contribute that to. The dryness or wetness is controllable and so far though all this each Mazzei configuration has been a factor as well in how well I've been able to get it to where I want it. Which is a very thick, sticky, and dry skimmate.

I know a lot of people like wetter skimmate but I don't. To me that's just a way to do a water change and not really about what a skimmer's basic function is which is to remove DOC. Sure, a water change will do that too but I already do an automatic water change. I don't need my skimmer to do the same.

Plus, when my sticky dry skimmate is able to produce as much as many people's wet skimmate that just helps confirm I'm doing ok.

I guess i'm on the other side of the fence. I like a little wetter skimmate. To me it is pulling out more docs out of the water column, being a little more aggressive, just my 2 cents. Here is a pic of it over about 2 1/2 days, about 10 cups....

It will pull out more DOC's as you're pulling out more water. Basically a water change as you'll need to add more saltwater to replace it. :strooper:

I'd rather my skimmer get more concentrated amounts of DOC or anything that will stick to a bubble which will include other things like some bacteria.

I like some DOC's though as does my bacteria, corals, algae scrubber, and other micro fauna.

I have recently switched over to a fowlr, so my stable salinity, trace elements ect are not as important in a fowlr vs a full blown reef. When I had the reef running, I did skim a little dryer, to keep things a little more stable. But in my fowlr i think skimming more wet works for me better.

Sounds good.

On another note.... :)

I sent Jeff an email last night and I got to talk with him this morning about buying a 5" extension and a beckett injector! Can't wait to get them. Probably be a few weeks.

I have about 6" above the skimmer so figured 5" extension would be nice.

He let me know to make sure to have the injector above the waterline in the skimmer or water may spray out. Something I would have found out the hard way. Also, too make sure to adjust the air intake to make sure it's not pulling in to much air and making to large of bubbles.

This will be interesting.
