My 55 gal reek has been taken over by mushrooms. I give up the one's that let loose to newbies but is there a way to get shrooms off of rocks. They are all over 80% of my rocks. I love them but I want to see the rest of my tank. I've done the point a powerhead at them til they let loose but that takes care of maybe 2 a week. any suggestions? if I can save them to give away I'd love to but if not I won't be heartbroken.

Take the rocks out and ship them all to me?

Seriously, I wonder if the anemone trick would work - you can use in conjunction with the powerhead but I've read if you take an ice cube and stick it right near the base it helps anemones come up because they don't like the cold - or at least you can get the foot up enough to slide something under it to pry it off... I'd guess you could try something similar with a shroom

not a bad idea. what about the concentrated Kalk approach that some use to get rid of aptasia? would it have the same effect on shrooms as on aptasia? Thanks for the reply

tenwhiteduke do you know about some of the local Tampa reef clubs? I hear they are very nice folks and should be able to hook you up a little bit.. Look at the extended forum list here on RC for them.. I'm in the orlando one ORCA

You could also check out SRC this summer there will be a huge frag auction and I'm sure there will be some nice ones there too


As far as using kalk paste i'm not sure? I use a 2 part so i'm not very experienced with it. Usually what you use to harm aiptasia is made reef safe so it wont bother your other corals. If you want them dead, well, you could probably try that but if you just want them gone some ice cubes should work or you can try to flip the rocks they are on over and hope htye detatch to find light

Go figure.....here I am trying to get some of my shrooms to stay put to their rocks and you're trying to get them loose. Blow some my way.

you can take a screw driver or a small chizel and a small mallet/hammer and easily chip off the shroom with a tiny amount of rock with it no harm done to either the base rock or the shroom .. i would def love some shrooms if u can get some off : )
