mushrooms in a blender

what if you used one of those press choppers you see on late night tv. You get two for the price of one, so you could make fries with one and mushrooms with the other.
Couple things...

Do you pulse the blender or really blend them? If you are causing that much damage to them, i'd think you would want to avoid additional heat from the blender.

I'm trying to come to grips with the fact you have already pureed more mushrooms than i have.

In.

New Experiment

New Experiment

hubris007: That is what I was going to post and I just did it and came to post and you had it here already, we are on the same line thank you for the suggestion.

I did two things today:

1: I put some mushrooms on a clean table and cut them pieces with Tupperware Food Chopper. It cut the mushroom pieces but it did not cut the skinn in the bottom but I moved the small pieces with tweezer. I put them in a seprate system. Each mushroom that was twice bigger than a quarter was cut to about 20 pieces.
2: I put some mushrooms in a blender and then I put them in a white container (cut the milke jug or container, plastic to half, one gallon) and then I put them as I have heard in a dark room.

hubris007: I did not buy the chopper. I used the one from the kitchen and my wife screamed from the second floor and said ," r u cutting something ? what are you cooking ?." I said ," mushrooms." and she said ," sounds good, I'll be down to help." when she came down and saw that I was using tweezer she knew what I was doing ! I cleanned the whole thing and washed it many times and then put it in the dishwasher. I have feeling that she will put locks on things in the kitchen someday.

I find that once I use something from the kitchen, she doesn't want it back no matter how well i clean it...and some things are off limits to begin with now...

Interesting thread, I have mushrooms, some up to 6in or so in diameter, but they dont seem to reproduce much, I will ocassionally see a small one, but after a day or so it will dissappear, guess something is having supper while I am not watching.

1: The blender system : Nothing is showing so far and I still have the airstone in it. I kept the lights off for two day and turned them back on today.

2: Food Chopper mushrooms are still the same color and they don't look bad but no signs that they are attaching.

3: milke jug mushrooms
When I went to look at them at first I saw some white things floating and it was pieces of skin but when I dumped some water to add some fresh water I did see some areas with some pieces of shroom that did not blend well and the bottom is Red covered with the shroom slim or whatever is that changed the color to red (interesting). It kinda gave me some hope because those pieces are not white and they are the same color which means that they did not get bacteria on them. I might take a pieces and look under a micorscope to see what I can see. I will do that sometimes before the weekend.

There will be an end but I don't know when. The cuts episodes will end faster because I can see them but the first episodes will take longer. Please be patient and I will keep updating. I hate to see the hero die at the end. In most of the movies relatives try to finish the job so there will be some more experiments. One experiment I did with a leather and it did good from 2 inches leather I had about 30 babies and it worked. I will try it with shrooms and will update sometimes soon.

Zooqi, while we're at a lull in the mushroom action, I've got to ask about your post above. You mentioned a leather expirement... what was it? Please don't tell me you placed it in a blender ;)

PJR,, hahaha,, no I did not place the leather in the blender. Sometimes soon I will take pictures of the process and will post it. I don't think that blender with leather helps but it sounds good (lol). I think that I will end up having blender as a Birthday Gift (haha). I got an e-mail from somebody who told me to try Green Star Pylops in a blender and then dump it in a tank with high light but I'm not sure. What do you think?

cperson:
I have done many xenia cuts before and I know that they will not survive the blender but I know that aipstasia will. I don't have any of them in my tanks but if I ever did aipstasia blender experiment, I will not put them in a system that has any other life. I might do it and put it in a system that will end up getting bleached after the experiment for a week or two. It is interesting to setup a system with some aipstasia, bubble algae, Anemonia majano. I have many friends and each complains about each one of these pests. I do have 85 gal tank that I can setup but it is risky because if I used something from that system in my other systems, I'm afraid they get them. Once I helped a friend who asked me to keep a coral for him untill he catches the fish that is bothering it. I put the coral in my main system and I saw a couple of majanos in a week. I went after each one of them untill I got rid of them.

i have a super-turbo-mushroom 'farm' growing on a dead table acropora skeleton. it's about 5 inches across. i stuck 3 or 4 loose mushrooms in it (just wedged them between the branches) about 2 years ago and it's gone crazy. within 2 or 3 months it was comepletely saturated with mushrooms. something about the way the bases touch other branches as they expand and contract i think makes them make lots of babies really really quickly. i could probably collect 10-15 loose mushrooms that fall off it every month if i wanted to. most of them are babies, but some are adults.

Leopardshark:
I'm sorry it does sound like something new doesn't it?. I'm sure you have heard of Majano many times but it sounds different with "S" at the end. I meant many of Anemonia Majano. Which can be a very serious pest and some people consider them plague. Aiptasia and Anemonia majano are two most common pest anemones in reef tanks. They can travel all over the tank. If I'm wrong please correct me.

manderx: hhh, interesting to know that and I might try that and there must be something that is making them do that. I would like to see a picture if you have an access to a degital camera and we might learn something from it. Thank you for the info..

Hey manderx, nice to finally see someone from this neck of the woods on the boards. Drop me an email or PM if you want to unload any of those shrooms - maybe we can trade for something! :)

I have 4 kinds of shrooms in my tank

some dark green with very slight dark spots on them...kinda like leopard spots...big performer in the propagation dept...all I do is shut off the front powerhead hit the bunch of them with scissors and catch the cutting in the current and push them towards the bottom front where there is live rock rubble all over and they just fall and attach where they may.

I do this with the flourescent blue striped ones....uhhh the survival here is not as good and thus I only have 4 from the original one...but there are 4 new ones trying to grow now so we shall see.

some flourescent blue/purple ones and they are the second best performer and again...with just a snip snip and catch them and put them in the rubble

the tough one...I have these orange ones....and I have tried to propagate these the most...they are very slow growing...and for some reason the cuttings just take so long to start attaching and regeneration that they are most likely eventually ending up blowing behind my live rock o wall and then just whither away...but I have 2 new ones trying now so hopefully.

So I do the slice and snip bit...and I am having reasonable success...just wish the orange and the striped ones would have higher success...it figures the 2 that I like the best are the toughest...

I will post the updates

I will post the updates

Interesting updates soon. I need to check something tomorrow and I will update.

1: The blender system : Nothing so far and I have the system running for almost 10 days. I looked close but since I have many small rocks and crush corals it is hard to see anything.

2: Food Chopper mushrooms: They were doing fine and I could see them untill I stopped the air pump and turned the system on. They disapeared. I think that if I would've kept the air pump on longer, they would've made it.

3: milke jug mushrooms: I added water to the jug and dumped the old water daily. I see 7 shrooms showing in the jug and I don't know which kind. It is not a good idea because I had almost the same amount of adult mushrooms in a blender. I thought I might see more than that but I don't know why. Maybe those are from the big pieces and the small pieces are gone or they might show again.

:D :)
4: I took a whole colony of a True Blue and put an onion bag on it and put a little pressure on the shrooms. Each shroom is in about 20 pieces and hope that I will start seing them split soon..

Will update you guys so please be patient

I won't give up untill I run out of mushrooms. I wish if I had more of them because ideas all over...
:D :) :) :)
