my 20g nano

bluenassarius

retired algae slanger
hello all,

this is my first time in the nano section of RC. i had a larger tank before but circumstances forced me to go to a nano.

i had a 7g a few days ago but moved everything to a 20g bc lack of real estate in the 7 :D.

my setup contains a powerhead(no idea what type), a medium cpr aquafuge, a modded aquaclear500 which i turned into a HOB sump, lit by 2x24w T5 HO retro. i'm planning to add another 48w of T5 retro once i get some more funds. currently skimmerless by choice.

i believe there is like 10 lbs of LR in there... the right side is supposedly barebottom w/ SPS, leftside is sand w/ softies and LPS. 2 dartfish...

heres some pix of my setup

thanks guys :) i dig the half/half setup. the rocks are really small which give the tank the illusion of being bigger :D i wanted to keep the rockwork simple and not overcrowd the tank.

very nice.....about the lighting im asumming you have both as daylights and if they are do u plan to get 2x24w actincs or daylight again?? and what did u mod on the AC??

i have 1 actinic and 1 daylight bulb in there. i'm going to add a ge6500k and a superblue + bulb. so total of 96w of T5 HO over my 20g.
the mod was to conver the ac500 into a HOB refugium. it was used as that when i had my 7g up and running. since i have a cpr HOB fuge... it defeated the purpose of running 2 fuges. i went ahead and added LR rubble to the ac500 to make it a HOB sump :)

wow it looks pretty nice, i nice background will make it look better, what kind of corals are you thinking to keep???

i currently have LPS, softies left side and the right side is all SPS. :D

the AC500 is on the right side of the tank. it creates quite a bit of flow. i'm going to have a friend mod a MJ400 which is supposed to kick out more flow than the seio 620s

nice looking, at fist i thought it would look weird half and half, but when the pics poped up i was surprised lol Looks really good, but be causefull of that Rio :D (i have the same one though lol)

Very nice! I like it as-is. If anything, I would actually change the rockwork around on the right side and make it little lower profile (more of a small mound), just to give the whole tank a more uniform appearance of a leeward lagoon or rubble zone, which many species of dartfish tend to inhabit. I think that would look fantastic...but just my opinion.

the rocks are set up on the right side like that to prevent a collapse :( it has to be placed against the glass bc of the awkward shapes to maximize space. i like the wide open look. the rocks don't crowd the refugium in the back also :D i enjoy looking at my macro algae grow as much as the display itself.

does the glass behind the rock get nasty looking? Looks like you can't clean it with a magfloat or anthing, how do you clean it? I have alot of flim algae so that would be a problem in my tank lol

lol, i dont have a prob w/ it :) my snails usually take care of it. looking foward to be being plastered by coraline algae. my macro algae consumes most of the nutrients in my tank. i do however have diatom blooms once in a while due to overfeeding. :D
