My 3" Ultra Max

Just thought I'd share a pic of my 3" Ultra Maxima. He lives in a 120 SPS/Clam system, but as of right now his only other close relative in the system is a 2" blue rimmed Squamosa. He has been in the tank for 2+ months, but only been in the rockwork for about 2 weeks now. For some reason he kept kicking himself off the rocks for over a month, and only extended his foot and attatched just shortly ago, maybe he wasn't settled into the system well enough yet...?

Hi Barry,

He is setting about 18" under the surface of the water.....2x250 HQI Ushio's about 8" off the surface. He seems to be in a really sweet spot, extending his mantle very nicely, and only getting a small "breeze" of current every 45 to 60 seconds.

I have heard of people placing some rubble around him and see if he will attach. IME some never do. He might be moving and then falling off rather than jumping. Just a thought.

By the way he is a very nice looking clams. :)

I've tried him in three different places at first, for about three weeks, in which he was falling and knocking himself off I think. Then I moved him to the sandbed for almost a month, where he settled in and seemed fairly happy. Once he quit moving over the bed, and was in a good spot, is when I moved him to the rocks, and presto, he stayed there. Who knows........although I am happy he is up off the bed, as I do not want anything down there until I get my small Deresa in the next couple months or so. He was one of the "aquacultured" ones from ORA. Not really sure if they are transshipping them in, and growing them out, or what?
