I started out with a Chauvet SF-4005, this will allow you to run 2-4 power heads. You can either run them 2 on and 2 off or have them cycle though all 4 one at a time. I'm only using two power heads so I have it set to 2 channel and set it on the slowest speed which will switch them ever two minutes.
I also cut the nozzles off my Maxi-Jet power head to make them shoot a wider stream of water out two different directions. This is because as the power is turned off and on the propeller can spin either way making the water come out either to left or to the right. See movie below.
In the movie you can see how when the powerhead is pointing straight the water alternates between left and right.
Water Switching Power Head
Now in the tank, I have two powerheads alternating shooting currents 2 different directions. So as the power alternate on and off between the powerheads it can shoot current in a choice of 4 different directions. Did that make sense ???
