My first clam, derasa.

I just bought a 3" derasa clam from my lfs, hes acclimating at the moment (drip set-up). I'll post a picture of him when I put it in the tank.

My tank is 24" tall and there is 2x250watt 10000k halides over it. I wasn't sure where to place the clam in the tank, it was on the bottom of a 15" tall tank with 175watt 10000k halide over it. My tank has alot of current on the bottom so I wasn't sure if I should take out some powerheads and keep it down there or place it low on my rockwork. Thanks for any advice, based on the picture I post later I'm wondering if I'll need to remove the clam for feeding.

Thanks for the placement advice, I've been lurking in this forum for a month or two I'm glad I finally can post experience (well in short time).

thats a cool looking one! derasas like the sand. But as all clams, they dont like high current. If your current is too high and you are not willing to make an adjustment, here is a trick that ive picked up:
Take a long, cylinder, tupperwear container. Fill it with sand. Make sure it is high enough so that the clam is out of all the water current. Place the clam on top so it is now technicaly in the sand like it likes. And the surround the container with live rock to cover it up. If it allows you to reaquascape, that could be a pain. i guess it depends how full your tank is at the bottom.

PS: and keep in mind that derasas get very big.
and also, if he jumps off, then you might want to try it in a different area, or just redirect your flow.

Thanks, he looks alright where he is now, I turned off some power heads and I might put a large flat rock in there, which will free up some room and I'll try to move him by a crevas.
