I also just purchased my first clam (Derasa), isn't it amazing how long we'll sit around and watch a new inhabitant that doesn't even move very often!?

LOL, yep it get addicting. I already bought 4 clams with the past month and I want MORE. My main reason for upgrading my lights were to keep clams.

Sweet looking clam too. I wish you the best with clam-keeping.

All of my clams came from 2 LFS. I paid more for them but it was an impulse buy. I said to myself I was gonna wait till I see something online I want but that didn't happen.

My next batch of clams will probaly be from online if I can wait. I suggest you check out www.clamsdirect.com They have a really nice selection and their prices are reasonable.

After I get my tank setup I plan to add at least a few clams. Getting the MH lighting was pretty much so I can keep Clams. Theres a few corals I like that I see occasionally, but I really LOVE clams.

I was just wondering if theres a safe number to add at a time? LIke would it be a bad idea to add 3 or 4? Or is it pretty safe, bio load wise to add more than that.

Depends on your CA and ALK levels as well as how mature your tank has been setup. I would wait at least 6 months before adding your first clam. And add 2 at a time. See how they do and if all is well, add another 2 down the road. HTH

17 clams................. 26 clams.............. I can see it now. I need a second job to catch up anytime in the near future lol.
I only have 1 clam untill hopefully this coming weekend. My clam is lonely lol.

man i want a clam =[. but i only have 4x65w pc lighting on a 72 gallon bow front. from light to sand bed is approx 20" but i know that aint enough hehe. all well maybe a squamosa someday. i was thinking of getting an mh and putting the mh on the bowed part of the tank whre no light is above. or ill just wait until i get a new tank i want and put mh on half of it and pc on other half =]
