Hello guys,

This week my girlfriend went out and bought me a clam from my LFS, when all i needed was a PH tester!..any ways the thing is a maxima i'm guessing..its meet is prurple with blue stripes, and is only about 1 inch in size. "it was pretty and only 15 dollors"...she's a keeper(my Girlfriend). Anyways, i no nothing on keeping a clam..so could someone give me some husbandry tips, things to expect and lookout for. feeding???..or atleast a direction on where to research

I am running a 90 gallon reef
2-400watt MH
3-48in Super atininc VHO,
AquaC EV150 skimmer,
15gal. tricklefilter/turned into sump(live rock/no bio balls)
130lb live rock
4-7in SB

THIS IS THE KILLER THOUGH...my tank is only almost 5 months old.
I know this is a young tank.
As far as water specs go..there are all in good/perfect conditions.
I have an array of different corrals, sand fauna, inverts ect..which all look to be doing very well. I couldnt ask for better....knock on wood.
Thanks

HERES A FUZZY PIC OF IT

Sounds like your system should be fine for any clam. Since it's only 1 inch, you will need to provide food for the clam. DT's phytoplankton would be best. After that Instant Algae or Golden Pearls will work. Do NOT try to spot feed the clam, simply add the food to the water in a high velocity area.

IMO, HTH

I would place the clam low down in your aquarium you shouldn't have any problems with 400W lights. I have my T. maxima sat on the sandbed on a small piece of rock. I agree too that you should feed some phytoplankton product, prefereably DT's if you can get hold of it, otherwise the instant algaes.
