Here is a pic of the maxima i've had for about a month. It's grown a bit since I bought it. It was only 20 bucks, which I thought was a good price.

how exactly can you distinguish between the species? The guy told me that it was a max, either way it's awesome ,the picture does not even do it justice, it's extremely bright in color. What should I look for so that I know that it's a maxima when I go get another one.

A trained eye and seeing a lot of them helps
. You just have to know that the croceas have a smooth shell whereas the maximas have rigdes on it. Also the mantle on the maxima just looks different. I guess u have to see a lot of them to tell the difference.

my clams shell is not smooth, it has the ridges that come out on the side that come out quite a bit. Between the maxis' that i have seen, that i knew for sure were maxis', the shell of mine is exactly the same. I noticed how maxis' have dots around the outside and so does mine. Either way, i'm going to get a true blue max pretty soon. I love clams.
