My New Addition

Beautiful fish. How can you tell the differences between the male and female? Some photos if possible. Much appreciated.

flameangel, thanks! Right now my camera is run down, I'll have to recharge and take some more pics!

DamnPepShrimp, thank you! I think we all wish these fish were more affordable and available, but, when it's rare and comes from Japan you know you aren't going to see very many... at all

Tim, Matt does get in some awesome fish, actually I found out about him through one of your threads some time ago! The display is kept at 72-74, right now the only other fish are a pair of flame wrasse. I have plans to add other angel and butterfly species.... my plan is a Hawaiian/Japanese biotope, maybe something like you'd see at midway atoll. The tank has been up for a while, but since most of the fish on my stocking list are rather difficult to find, it has been a slow process. I'll be starting a tank thread soon after I make some lighting / equipment changes.

Chelsey, sounds like a clarion is the fish for you ;)

Pookstreet, from what I understand, the males have the prominent blue and black stripes down the rear fins as seen in the male flame angels. Also the blue spots on the face tend to be more connected. You can see a little bit of this in the above photos, but nothing like from larger males I've seen. I don't have any pics for this a the moment, and am a little hazy on this myself, maybe somebody else can chime in here :)

small alien, JuliusJames, and Matthew, thanks!!

Awesome. Good luck and keep us updated. I think a Bandit is in order. How sexy would a bandit look swimming around with a interupptus!!!!!! T

Nice she looks fat and happy. Is she in a reef? Is she bothering anything? I have a 4" wild as well and am just a little nervous putting her in a reef tank.

Pookstreet, join the club! :)

Stacie, sorry I haven't had her in with corals hardly long enough to tell whether or not she is bothering anything, but I will keep you updated on how she does over the long term.

LobsterOfJustice, you should go check it out! They do also look great in person ;)

What temp is your tank and what are you feeding her at this point? You mentioned mysis in the beginning, but is she eating anything else? Thanks for the info.

I keep the temp between 72-74, my staple has always been enriched mysis but I will also feed rod's food and angel formula. She'll also take pellets less enthusiastically. I think over time she'll take more variety of prepared food.
