My new Diver's Den red Haddoni

That is a beauty Todd! Keep us updated. I keep looking for a reddish or purple gig to go with my green, but I don't have the guts to spend $500 on a shipped nem, even if it is DD. Yours sure looks good though!

It's beautiful Todd! I've never seen one that color. :-O
Thanks for the great photo documentation of it's packaging and acclimation process. :-)

Looking good, he is a small specimen huh?

Thanks, Yeah, it is on the smaller size, suppose to be close to 7" when fully open.

gorgeous!

Thanks a lot Christina.

Very gorgeous indeed, and I like the acrylic trick, never thought of that, I'm usually scrounging for a rock that fits/blocks path.

Thanks. Yea, I was looking for a little rock, but didn't have any that fit. Remembered that I had a couple sheets of acrylic in my "fish closet" so used that.

Beautiful anemone!!! Best of luck to you and the anemone:)

Thanks. I will take any luck that I can get.

I knew that it wouldn't last long on the DD site, so I ordered it right away, and looked at the price after wards, think if I would have looked at the price first I might have had second thoughts. Though, I had faith in DD ability to ship it, and only ship a healthy one.

Why thank you. I had to make sure I took tons of pictures -- a dork like that. ;)

Got some new pictures late last night. And when I was feeding the fish, some of the food hit the Haddoni, showed great feeding response. Still going to hold out on a direct feeding until next week some time.

A close up,

hey Todd,

let me give you my 2 cents worth of opinion.

get that clown out of the tank now if you want a long term success with that thousand dollars carpet.

i did not want to say anything when i first saw the clown yesterday, but today i see it inside with only the tail showing......... i must say something!

i have 2 of those clowns, and they are VERY vicious with carpets, especially when the carpet has food. IT WILL WEDGE ITSELF INSIDE THE CARPET TO STEAL FOOD. and it will not do it gently either. they are so f!$%^&king vicious at doing so i took them out of my tank. it's either the carpet or the clown, the choice was very easy for me.

there is no clowns in this world would justify me risk losing any of my carpets. i would hope you think the same.

Thanks for your concern. But for right now I am going to leave the saddleback in the tank. I am fully aware that saddlebacks can be rough on Haddonis, but this one is pretty mellow. It has another Haddoni that it spends 99% of its time in, and that Haddoni has been looking better since it started hosting that clown.

This part reads that you get the impression that I don't care properly for my anemones --- You have no idea the lengths I have gone through to make sure that all of mine are given the proper care. I would think that the fact that I have a 12+ year old Haddoni would somewhat indicate that I do my best to give them the conditions that they require.

you misunderstand my point, no problem.

what i meant is that when it comes to choose between a clown and a carpet, especially of this beauty, i would choose the carpet and i was hoping you think the same, nothing to do with your lack of experience.

anyhow, like my opening statement, it was just my 2cents, take it for what it's worth. Best of luck Todd. :spin3:

Whether you think you are an expert or not you should get that clown out of the tank until that carpet is fully settled. All it takes is one time for that clown to dive into your new anemones mouth to cause it injury. BTW that clown is oversized compared to the anemone...another potential problem. I think skunk is only looking out for your investment.

There are only a handful of people on here that I would call a nem specialist or expert, and Todd is one of those people.
I'm sure he will recognize if there is a problem that needs to be dealt with.
Very cool pics, keep em coming!!

Thanks a lot.

The clown has another Haddoni that it spends 99% of its time in. Of course if it starts to cause issues for the new one I will intervene, but as of right now it isn't causing any issues. The pictures with it in the new one were taken when it happened to be in it -- the lasted all of 5 seconds and then it was back to its existing anemone.

I've had issues in the past with clownfishes beating up on the anemone, and having the anemone die at the end. Usually it's because the clownfish is too big for the anemone, and the anemone cannot handle it. However from your pics it doesn't look like the saddleback is that big, and your carpet is big enough to handle that saddleback. Good score...will have to be on the lookout for another DD specimen. :D

cool pics man. how come u dont feed the name the first week? just wondering and want to learn

Want to give them time to settle in. And that one week rule isn't a hard rule, it depends on how the anemone is doing. But, the reason behind it is this; it takes energy for the anemone to digest, energy that it may not have an excess of -- after the stress of shipping and whatnot. Also, there is the possibility that the anemone will pull in the food, but (( for whatever reason )) not be able to digest it -- either at all, or completely -- then that food will start to foul from the inside of the anemone.

Now, if the anemone happens to catch some food meant for the fish, so be it. I wouldn't try to intervene in that case.

i think he feeds thawed krill, from another thread that i read.

hey todd wats the light requirements to keep one of these? would they be healthy under 4 bulb 24watt T5?

Yeah, I do the same thing, kinda baby steppin in for the first couple/few weeks, let it settle, maybe pics up mysis, takes it if it wants it, kinda like nursing a patient back to health.
Light is their main source of energy anyway, they can go a long time w/out food.
Doing that right now w/ my new Malu.

I think Todd hve more experience with Carpet than almost anyone of us here. I am sure he will know what to do it it look like the clown is bothering the carpet. This is not to say that an expert cannot kill a anemone.
Great carpet and a beautiful clown. Almost as beautiful as my clown :-)
