My ORA Red Planet arrives today!!

Holy smokes! Where could I get a frag of that. It has to be one of the most spectacular corals I have ever seen on RC.

Yeah it is pretty cool. Unless you flood the light to it, it turns brown. I believe it is fairly common. I break pieces off all the time and give them away. No one else can keep it that deep purple....at least around where I am at. Sometimes sold at German Blue Digi.

That frag is quite the score. Best I've ever seen. I put one midway in my tank under T5s and it lost all the green. I just moved it down to see if the green comes back.

What are you blasting it with? In my 40B I'm running some fairly intense lighting 2X150w 14K Phoenix HQIs and 4X39w UVL T5s.

Does the red planet like high flow? I have mine about mid level in my tank, It has great color but no where near the PE you have.

Mine is in high volume but unfocused flow-
it seems pretty happy. I think my flow turnover rate in my 40B is 40 to 50 per hour.

I have my Purple Digi directly under my 400 watt MH. Have had the same color with two different brand bulbs, both 20k. So I guess it is just the quantity of the light. Others have had it purple up, but not as bright, under over driven t5s. Again directly under the light. I can take a piece move it down, 12" and it will turn solid brown in a week or so. It really loves light.

Thanks- was it any special Purple Digi such as a ORA Super Purple digi or the like or just the generic german purple digi that a frag goes for twenty bucks or so?

No it was just a purple digi, but I could put a really cool name on it like Super Barney Digi or something if it will make it cooler. When I gave a piece to a local reef guy around here he stuck the ORA name on it and sold it for like $40 bucks a frag....right after I "gave" him a really big piece of it...cause after he had it in his tank it all turned brown. Too bad your not closer, I would just give you a piece of it. I have a few frag plug I grow it on, break of piece of it and give them away.

I think if you put it right under the MH you might get the color, I put some in my 90 gallon tank right under my 150 MH and it colored up for me, but not as bright as the 240. Here is a bigger picture of it....

Thanks, that is an amazing color. I have a fairly large colony of blue polyp Monti digi under my lights, I'll see what it does. In a prior tank dirctly under a 10K MH it browned out. We will see what it does under a mix of 14K MH and T5s.

dude that digi is awesome! I got my red planet today! Mines not very big, I don't think I got a very good deal, but it's alive and it looks great!
