My Sharks in HD

Looks great! I love the feedings and the moorish idol is very unique to the setup. Are you hoping to breed the sharks?

The crates are for the sharks to sleep in during the photoperiod, even though many of them have become less and less nocturnal and more diurnal. Lots of swimming and activity during the day.
There also exists a theory about the bony fish that live in a system with some of the more apex predators. Ive read about this mostly from Bob Fenner and WWM. So the crates also provide a feeling of safety for the other fish in the lagoon/pond.

Thanks E!
Most definitely a breeding project. Every species represented has at least 1 male and 1 female per.

Not exactly a Serta Perfect Sleeper but they are extremely functional and serve the purpose.
And the added benefits are I dont have to worry about puncturing the pond liners and the sharks can't get deeply scratched, like cuts that happen from live rock, or live rock tumbling onto them. Being comprised of cartilaginous skeletons, they wouldn't heal like a bony fish/animal when a bone is broken.

Anyways..... picked up a beautiful angelfish yesterday. Video will be up in a bit.

So heres the angel, forgot to share the video. Its not pretty because shes in QT with cupramine.
Shes a beauty though.

Beautiful! Heya G, how have you been? New year treating you well? Thanks for the quick "write up" on the controller. Everyone looks great!

Awesome Pictures!!!

Awesome Pictures!!!

Grabbed a couple Kessil LEDs to hopefully replace the 175 Watt Metal Halides that are hanging over the Pond. Im hoping that the amount of light the Kessils give off is somewhat comparable in comparison to the MHs. But i did want to lower the intensity a bit, on behalf of the sharks. So I think I did it right.

I have to give a Shout Out to SaltwaterAquarium.com and Ken, their Sales Rep. An amazing business they've got, and they'll meet and beat prices, and their customer service is amazing.

Also changing the system up a little bit. Spent some time (hours and many trips) at the Hardware store, and I'm planning to set-up a Closed Loop on the Pond.

---Anyone who may have a tip about how I can loop PVC, along the inside top edge with outlet ports every so-many-feet to allow for flow in some areas I've noticed aren't receiving any laminar flow, please chime in!

I have drafted up a very basic idea where the pump is in the middle of one side and then a complete square with PVC on the inside top edge is made around the perimeter, with 90s and 45s in certain places for outlets with ball valves at each one to allow for control at each outlet.
The problem i foresee is that all of the new Sched 40 pipe is going to make the pond look even more industrial and I might hate it.
Is there a safe paint, maybe Krylon, that can be used on the Sch 40, and is also safe if submerged in the water?? I was thinking of painting it black if possible to make it blend better.

Here's some pics of the other tanks that are in-line..... Animated!!!

How many Kessils are you planning on using? I am a big fan of your pond, setup and fish, not really a fan of the animation videos.

Thanks! I Appreciate that!
Lol. Those are just animated GIFs I was playing around with.... or did you mean the real videos?

I haven't Installed the LEDs yet, so it might take a dry run with two, then three or four to find the right intensity. But the reduction in electricity is great, plus bulb replacement is eliminated as well.

I love the real videos the gif was just distracting while reading. To save some money you can add a led flood light or two. It won't have the color of the kissels but it's cheaper and will give more coverage.

Oh.
The animated GIFs are something new that Google+ automatically does when you take multiple shots in rapid succession. I usually take multiple pictures back to back, whenever I try to get a good picture.
Then I sift through the pics, deleting bad and out of focus pictures, and keeping the very few good ones that come out of the dozens I took.
This was a tip given to me by a great photographer, but its only useful now really in digital cameras, to some extent. You wouldn't want to do it on film and waste all of those exposures and/or photo developings.

As for the LED flood lights, Wingo makes some really great ones in the PAR38 and PAR30 sizes, I believe.
I purchased the Kessil's so eventually they could be re-purposed. I love 'em so far.
Still testing different mounting angles, and perhaps fluorescent or MH combos.
We'll see what looks best eventually, with electrical consumption in mind too.....

Purchased 40 pounds of South Seas Rock yesterday to put in the tank that the P. navarchus is alone in. The rock is great. Super porous and less dense then most LR I have, and its affordable. So 40 lbs. goes a long way. About 10 med/large nice pieces. I dont understand why CaribSea classifies it as Base Rock. All of the imported Base Rock I usually see is super dense/heavy, lacking any shape or branching and usually round and or flat in shape. This stuff is like Fiji ultra!
But who knows.... Over the years I've purchased many boxes of this stuff and now it looks like 9.99 per pound LR.

A Prazi treatment of the entire system began today. I do this atleat once a year, sometimes 2 or 3 times. Almost always goes well. Sometimes stressful drops in DO/ORP. But I believe this practice is something that maintains healthy sharks when kept together with bony fish. Sharks are quick to pick up worms and flukes. Fingers crossed.....

The 'Mother Nature' filtration method.

Lots of greens. Pardon the dirty glass on the Killifish tank. That tank has since been repurposed and aquascaped for some special fishies.

Haha. Yes it is.

I finally, maybe 2 days ago, scored a half dozen Angelfish, Both Large and Dwarf, and rare wrasse for my reef. The mollies were taking over, as were the killifish. I believe those big ones were the Chesapeake Killifish. Last summer I bought several batches of killis from different places and kept them isolated, then quarantined them thoroughly, and only a few months ago did they get put in line with the rest of the system. As of last night, all of those fat killifish in that empty-ish tank, went into the pond with a bunch of their buddies. Best schooling fish I've had in there. They're so fast, one minute you're looking at it, then its just gone!

The fat pregnant one, shes been like that for a while now. Any idea, other than just being pregnant? Seems like its been far too long for a pregnancy, and shes the only one out of maybe 20 that look like that. The rest cant really all be males?
I dont believe it to be bloat, as she is very active and eating with gust...

I was able to find a juv. Blueface Angel, which I have been looking for, for quite some time. I believe it came from the Marshall Islands.
The first 2 hours after I acclimated it, as soon as i walked away, that Flameback Angel that killed its own mate beat the crap out of the Blueface.
Never in my life has a fish infuriated me to that extent.

Anyway, hence, the killifish were moved to the pond and the tank repurposed. I re-scaped it, added another powerhead and some macro-algae. The BF has been resting well, having caught as soon as i saw the agression.

And lastly, I discovered a moray eel in one of the tanks yesterday! I believe much earlier in the thread, sometime last year, i noted that i purchased a Misc. Eel and had hopes it was a Goldentail. I dropped him in a tank, the one that has the mangroves and wall to wall algae, and never saw it again. I assumed it was dead and that all those critter in there scavenged it diligently. But there was his head. And boy had he grown!!! (Thats the beauty of the Mollies and Killis. The mollies, which breed like bunny rabbits, are constantly making Live food.)
My jaw hit the floor. I was temporarily housing a Multifasciatus angel in that tank at the time. He was immediately relocated also.
