My Stonefish PICS!!!!

I believe that piranhas are illegal in any state that the local waterways are warm enough for the fish to possibly spawn .

stubby

They are illegal in Maine-surely the waters are too cold for them to spawn here.

A lfs had a stone fish several years ago. Really had to search to find it in the tank.

(I have a skewered mollie in the pic...please dont report me to PETA or anything...)

Finally got some rather bad pictures of this guy eating! the shutter speed was at only 1/100 so next time i'll try something a bit faster... but here you go!

Stonefish are very venomous, on the order of blue ring octopi. Seeing as those are not banned, I don't see a reason why the stonefish would be banned. Most restricted species are potentially damaging economically, not personally, though I notice that the Georgia law has a blanket provision the regulate anything that they deem so. The Georgia code also pretty much says that if you are keeping an aquatic species in an aquarium, as long as it isn't one of their specifically restricted species, and any water that comes from the tank goes into a septic tank or through a water treatment plant, it is fine by them.

Very nice, hows it getting on? My wife would be the same, what else can you keep with them, not that im planning on getting one! Ive seen on in a public aquarium, in an approx 10 gal. It took me 2 mins of staring to find the thing! Great design. Are they really as venomous as a BR Octoc? Any reported fatalities or is this more anecdotal? Im not saying they couldnt kill, people, but have they actually?

A website I found claims 5 deaths from stonefish poisoning, which isn't very many in the grand scheme of things.

i know people eat stonefish, its in some sushi i guess, and if you dont cut it right you can get poisoning and die. did the article specify wether it was inhaled or if it was injected?

You are thinking of pufferfish, which have tetrodotoxin in their livers (thus making them poisonous, not venomous). To the best of my knowledge, all scorpions are venomous (via injection) but are not poisonous (many of the larger Pterois are food fish).

you don't want to poke yourself with their dorsal, pelvic, or ventral spines.

note the dorsal spines on this stingfish:

decent shots for it being such a fast feeding.... congrats on finally being able to keep one, wouldnt happen to be the reason you moved to china from hawaii would it. lol jk, if it is dont let the wife find out she doesnt sound too thrilled about the fish as it is.

Cool creature! I´m not brave enough to keep a potentially deadly animal (being a parent and such), but I always enjoy the pictures.
