Well its sinkl or swim time today got some panacur to try and treat the hydroids I will post the results as I notice them.:hammer: :hammer:

Well approx 12hrs later hydroids have lost there puffy little heads and no ill effects on any corals or live stock. All that is visible is the stocks of the hydroids. My live stock includes several pieces of acro and various other sps.Pls do not follw my lead until I have run the full course of meds I will report as often as I can as to the results.

Ok 24hrs all sps ok .Lps anthelia does not look happy .
Candy cane looks fine .
Hydroids are suffering nothing but the stocks and root structure left over.

Hello dyereefer,
i have few freinds with this problem and I did not understand if you got the way to kill these Myrionema Amboinensis.
If yes pls can you explain me ?

Ok Here goes. I used panacur paste 2Mg per gallon .
I dosed twice at 2mg per gallon.
The 3rd treatment 1mg per gallon
All carbon was removed protien skimmer air was shut off but water was still allowed to flow through it.
The only things in my tank that were adversly affected by the Panacur were Anthelia,Gsp,Xenia and another friend said that his cleaner shrimp .
It has been clear sailing so far no more hydroids have come back .Yiu may want to try and use the powder form of Panacur if available. Panacur is used to treat worms in horses.
Between treatments I did large water changes and ran carbon.

Bumping this thread up (since it's 2 yrs old) to see if anyone else has tried this approach (or others) to rid their tank of hydroids.

wow, thread back from the dead! I broke down and cooked my rocks that were infested with hydroids for 4 weeks in hypo-salinity (1.009). It was drastic, but it worked. It killed all other inverts on the rocks (worms, dusters, etc...) but the coralline was still thriving when I replaced it back into the the tank.

It is a drastic measure, but just know it is a solution if you can get the corals off and remove the rock for a few weeks. a couple months later and the rock is rebounding with life and no signs of those b#@%ards!

I have to add a few questions:

1. The guy that used Panacur, is his tank still hydroid free?
2. Any other softies affected?
3. What about mushrooms?
4. Bristleworms and other critters? Did the water turn cloudy?

I am coming close to trying it. I was going to take my SPS out, but based on what I read this is not necessary??? That would be AWESOME.

Another important question- will it kill my anemones? I can take out my red bubble tip anemones but not my carpet...

I need to find a way to make this work. If I can get rid of the hydroids AND the parasitic worms at the same time I would be VERY happy!

Also, I have spent the last hour reading stuff found on google. A few places claim that the rocks absorb the stuff and that snails have died weeks later. But that was at pretty high doses in comparison to what is mentioned in this thread.
