I was cruising this forum for the first time and thought I'd share a pic top down showing my two maximas and one squamosa (on the bottom) in my 10 gallon nano...

Thanks Geno... it's was all I could hold steady for while holding the PCs with the other hand...:wildone:

Here's another anyway...

copps, that's amazing looking one..
where you buy those clams?
i am too from va area, i bought one from marine scene and the other from reeftank...
nice to see one mo va reefer..

I got them at The Reef Tank... all three... they get a good supply of clams... and it helps when you get pick of the litter too. If you're a member of WAMAS (local reef club) we get 10% off of both stores you mentioned... by the way I'm in Dulles. Good to meet you.

Is that ultra max on the right solid blue or does it have some green in it? Thats a beauty I used to have one in pictures it looks blue but in person you will see some green.

It's pretty much solid blue... of course from the front of the tank it's not as vivid, but an awesome blue... thanks...

Here's a better shot of my squamosa...

Yes, I too would like to know what kind of lighting you are using. It is my understanding that they won't do well in the long term unless they are under MH lighting. I dont have a clam yet but would like to get one and all I have are nano's under PC lighting.

BTW great looking tank!

Thanks Gene for posting the link. You could also check out my gallery where I have pics.

I run 2x36 watt PCs with one 10k bulb and one actinic.

As most of you probably know, smaller Tridacnas rely on feeding much more, and as they grow rely more on lighting to satisfy their needs. Regarding lighting, you must think of the amount of light energy the clam is receiving where it is placed. My maximas are inches from the PC light source, as opposed to feet in some metal halide tanks. I believe in the longrun MH lighting is ideal. I will be setting up my 180 for sps and clams within a year, but I believe my maximas would be fine for even longer than that under their current conditions. Therefore I believe it's acceptable to keep smaller clams in nanos with the intention of moving them when need requires. There are other issues beyond lighting in nanos that are necessary for keeping clams, and many people fail, only to blame it on improper lighting. I think that happens a lot in the whole hobby, when people lose corals they tend to jump the gun and blame lighting a lot, when in reality it could be many things. RTN in sps is another example.

Anyway I would only recommend keeping clams in nanos for experienced reefers. I feed heavily also. In my gallery also you'll see my refugium above. Hope that helps and feel free to question more if you like...

I have a maxima in a 10 gallon nano which is packed full. I run a 96 watt powerquad PC. I plan to upgrade very soon to a 175watt mogul, icecap 175 watt ballast and a 10,000k blueline bulb.

My maxima seems fine under the 96 watt but I know it's not the best for him.
