NASA Ocean Salinity Map

Today NASA released the first ever full map of the ocean's surface salinity as part of the Aquarius mission.
It's pretty neat to look at and could have interesting implications/uses for aquarists around the world, but I may be biased because I worked on it :cool:

Nice! How do you guys track salinity and how is salinity measured? Are there plan to track salinity overtime?
 
Yes I'm curious as to how the satellites came to these results. Do share.
