my nassarius snails came today and ive had some things come up since i ordered and then the other guy that ordered with me is now decided to get out of the hobby so now i have way more snails than i need at this time, so i need to get rid of alot. they are about 1/2 inch nassarius snails. ive seen them online going for as much as 1.99 each! i will let these go for 50cents each and possible trade for some lps or mushrooms frags. ill be around all day friday

Are these snails good for BB tanks or do they perfer a DSB? I was looking into getting some for my tank to eat detritis and algae off the glass.

located in galloway near new rome

jh2pizza ill see you monday

fishgirlheather not sure but im puttin a bunch in my bb display, fuge and frag tank because they eat detritis

woodywood they are about 1/2 inch

xdusty6920 thats alot of snails in a coolwhip bowl, you should only need 3-4 in there since they recommend having 5-7 per gallon.

I'd like to get a couple off of you to try (haven't had any of those yet). I know it doesn't exactly diminish your stock however hehe.

I am going to _TRY_ to make the meeting.

Are they Nassarius Vibex-- or the so called Nassarius Obsoleta (actually Ilyanassa obsoleta)

The difference--

Vibex

Obsoleta

Obsoleta are supposedly carnivores rather then detrivores and come from temperate waters so may not thrive at reef temps???

supposedly that is the best way to tell... what spuds725 said... if they have ridges on their shells they are true nassarius spp. and if not, they are in the same family as nassarius but are actually more appropriately classified as a whelk

i just called the guy that i got them from and left him a message.
they are from a store in florida. theres no website just the store. we were in there earlier this year and he gave me his number.

if they are obsoleta. what are they good for. why wouldnt they be good in a reef. what i just found on them was that they eat left over food and algaes like cyno and sift sand. isnt that why you would want them?
