Anyone out there using a motorized pulley to raise and lower ther light hood/pendants? I will have two sets of lights to lift over my 300g. Any recommendations?

Thanks, John

A gear motor is what you want. How heavy is the light rack you want to move. How much travel do you need?

I purchased a windshield wiper motor for this task (tested it but never finished the project) and a 3:1 pulley system.

The higher the torque of the gear motor, the less mechanical advantage you will need in a pulley system.

I use linear actuators to raise and lower my Canopys over my tanks. They run about 100 bucks a pop. They are rated anywhere from 25Lbs to 400Lbs. Mine came from Here
