Need advice on fragging Xenia??

Can someone give me some input on how to frag Xenia? I've never done it before.

All you have to do is lay another rock against the Xenia , wait till it attacthes then cut the xenia in two. The tissue that remains will regrow to form a new Xenia. EASY.

cut with a razor and rubberband to some rubble. I usually make sure that I have a minimum of 5 heads per cut. It should reattach to the rubble within 3 days. GL

sounds easy enough. I wanted to take some and put it in another area in my tank.

soon you will be trading it here on RC. I am trying to get it to grow all along the back wall of the tank. I think it will look cool

thats what I hear. My friends have warned me how fast it grows. Could I just slice off a stalk and place it somewhere else in my tank? I just saw something on a site where a guy used scissors to make a clean cut, then stuck it with a toothpick and place it on a rock. what do you think?

Poor Xenia, lol. But that should work. Make sure that it touches the rock

What will happen with the toothpick? Wont it bond to the Xenia as it will to the rock?

Ive never owned Xenia but Id just get a razor blade and slice em, and stick en to rock.

Just skip a water change and that stuff will grow like crazy. It used to grow like crazy in my nano cube with no skimmer and now with my new tank and skimmer I cant get it to grow to save my soul, im pretty sure it likes nutrient rich conditions.

In my experience whatever method you use will work...it is pretty hard to kill the xenia...ripping, cutting, using rubber bands, toothpicks, etc.

when cutting, should I cut towards the base of the stalk or does it not really matter?

You should try cutting it on the base, so that you wont have a hard time sticking it to something.

If you use rubber bands, make sure that it is not too tight, or you will have two pieces floating around your tank.

I think you're right. Mine was growing like crazy when I got lazy and didn't change the water for a couple months. When I finally changed my water, it all melted. I think I changed too much. Does anyone have any for sale in my area?

I put a couple small rocks next to the xenia. Part has already attached itself. Does it have to be completly moved over to the rock of just enough so the I can cut it close to the base?

I just use scissors and cut it....then I give it away unattached....so far every person that got some just put it on the rock they wanted and it attached within a day

I cut 5 - 10 frags a week and trade them at the LFS. Just cut with sharp scissors, low enough below a stem to allow you to rubberband it to a little rock. It will attach in 3 - 4 days. I have always had better luck growing it when I dose Lugols solution or iodine. Check my gallery for some pic's of my zenia and one shot of the zenia frag farm. Good Luck.
