I'm waiting for my Elos 55g to arrive to start my first reef aquarium. It looks like it will take about 2 weeks to arrive so my question is which equipment should I start buying in the order of importance in starting a successful aquarium.

So far the equipments i've gathered are sump,ATO,pump,hydra52,heaters and obviously the tank.
Just purchased my dry rocks, salt and test kit.
What would you guys recommend for next crucial equipments I should have ready? and which brand?
I've been doing alot of research but this hobby can really overwhelm you.:uhoh3:
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Skimmer. Not that active on start, but it picks up.
WE have a red-arrow starting up sticky upthere that will answer questions.
Knowing what fish you want to keep plus tank size requirements is a good start: a 55 is a good goby-blenny-firefish-wrasse or clowns and nem type tank. Form your plans re fish and corals and ask away on suitability and compatibility. And [welcome]

I was hoping to get a couple clowns, gobies, firefish and mostly corals and a clam. I love tangs but I know my tank isn't big enough.

So do you think protein skimmer should be next on my list? I was going back and forth between skimmer and RO/di system.
Are media reactors helpful in the beginning stage of reef development?
what about powerheads?

Congratulations V. My first tank was a 55g too. The biggest thing that stands out in my memory from starting was all of the great shortcuts that I took which often lead to failure. This is a slow hobby but everyone enjoys it. Like Mushu said an RO/DI system is great to have on hand. There are many other ways to get your water though they just arent as convenient. Obviously you can but 40+ gallons somewhere or you can drive water directly from the ocean if you live close enough.(i DID THIS FOR 4 YEARS AND IT WORKS GREAT$$$).

Once the tank cycles. Read the fifty ways to do that. Macroalgae in the sump (12$ clip on lamp, 25W halogen indoor flood)
Three months to other limited livestock. Six months to anemones. i.e. Be real patient Come to East Windsor frag event October 15
