Need Help with a SeaClone Skimmer 100!

Hello RC Swimmers,

I just recently purchased a SeaClone 100 Protein Skimmer and hooked it up to my 16 gal. I am a little confused on how to set the air valve intake on the skimmer. It has been running for a week and I do not have nothing in my collection cup yet. I have two clowns, 5 snails, 1 shrimp, 1 hermit, and one emerald crab. All the skimmer seems to do is just collect water into the main valve and spit it back in to the tank. How do I set it to where it works properly? There is a little tornado of microbubbles that seems to form in the main valve, but it does not seem to be extracting any waste into the collection cup. If you have any comments please feel free to post.

I have a seaclone that has been modified to the point that is a seaclone in name only. I could never get the one that I had to work very well. the newer models are said to be a bit better. Try turning the air wide open, you should see an air pocket form in the J tube. Now start closing the valve untill the air pocket disappears. I found that when the air pocket is gone and no bubbles are going into the tank is the best setting. Unfortunately the seaclone will not get too many kind words around here. the one that I modified works pretty well, but it is still no where near a Remora or ASM . If you can get it to start skimming it will probaly be OK on your 16 gallon.

How did you modify your SeaClone? I heard of some people cutting about and inch off the main tube.

One easy mod that you should do right away..... go to the hardware store and purchase a brass air valve and take off that chinsy peice of plastic crap that comes with it. That should solve any adjustment problems you'll have. If your not getting foam then.... its possible that your bioload is not great enough yet for it to pull anything out!

For your 16g a seaclone 100 should be fine.... but i would not trust any of their models on anything bigger than a 30g!! Good luck.
