so i have 436.4g tank with the dimension of 10'length5'width14"tall. like the one at the lfs. I'm planning to have a mix reef. I'm was thinking to get a 135g sump build like mikid and brian. so my total volume is like 491.4g. what lighting system and skimmer do you recommen? any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's a big tank. Lighting it is going to take some serious consideration no matter how you decide to do it. The 5' width makes it a little more challenging, but it depends on how you plan to aquascape.

If you can live with about a 3' spread the full sized Lumenarcs or Lumenbrites are still a solid reflector. You can keep them a little higher than usual since you have a shallow tank which will help with the spread even more. 4x 250w should do the trick. If you need coverage all the way out to the edges of the tank you could supplement with some T5's or LED's. I don't think an all T5 or LED setup would be practical for a tank of that size.

As for skimmers, I would look for something that utilizes efficient pumps such as the Sicce or Tunze pumps, or something along those lines. There's no reason you should have to use 200 watts to skim your tank.

thanx jacob. i was reading on the lumen productt: lumenbrite lumenarc and lumenmax. they say that lumenmax and lumenarc are better at tank that are better then 3feet wide. im going to read up on some more and will look for some used one. but thanx for the help.

My tank is almost 3 feet front to back and I get good coverage with the Lumenarc III's (full sized). I have mine fairly close to the water too, by raising them up some they'll span more, with a little loss in PAR... but on a shallow tank I think that would be a fair compromise.

If you decide you're in the market for the LA III's drop me a PM. I have 3 of them that I'll have to get rid of at some point :) I'm only using one right now since I have no more corals.
