Need Suggestions for Breaking Down Large Tank

I'm moving to SoCal and I'll be selling off my livestock but I can't imagine trying to pull the rock out to catch to sell the fish one by one from a 200g+ tank. What is my best option here?

Depends on how much time you have. Maybe list everything you have from gear to livestock and provide bulk price vs part out price? Sorry to see you go, but congrats on your new plans.

Sell all coral, then move most of the rocks to the sump so you still have filtration, and net the fish.

That's not a bad idea. I can leave a few rocks or large pvc pieces for shelter and then it should be a lot easier to catch fish one or a few at a time with an eggcrate barrier (but probably still a challenge).

I'm more worried about fish than corals and I highly doubt anyone has a 180+ and is ready for all the fish I have at once :lmao:

I am tempted to just take them all to aquatic collection though just to get it over with. I'm going to have enough things to worry about with selling the house. Maybe I'll sell as much as I can on one day and trade in whatever doesn't sell?

Unless you have a certain type of relationship with AC, they typically will not give you anything for your livestock, so essentially you'd be gifting it to them. In which case, I'd say might as well give it to fellow reefers, but that's your call of course. One day is a tall order... if only you had more time.

if you list what you have for sale, you can get a gauge of what people are interested in or not.

I know that people will be interested. I'm more concerned about logistics in this thread. I've never sold fish out of a large tank before and it seems like it would be a pretty big chore if I have to do it multiple times over the course of several days or a week+.

Honesty if you list all your fish and sell it cheap enough . Set a day and time, people will line up at your door to take them out [emoji38]. At least this way all ur livestock will be gone in one day.

I agree with this, then, whatever doesn't sell on the given day, can go to the LFS and left in a bucket in a straw basket on the doorstep.

If you post a list I would be interested in a couple fish as others probably would be also.

Best to just list out what livestock you have and what date you need everything gone by.

Might be lucky and have someone who is just starting a 180g+ tank take all at once. Wont know until there is a list.

One more thing Where are you located?

"œUnion City" according to profile.

A pic of tank plus quick list of fish (and size of fish) would go long way.
