Need two suggestions for frags

Evyllchyld

Trying again
I'm in the process of setting up a pico tank and I'll be putting two pieces of SPS in. I'm newish to SPS so I don't know most of them so I was hoping you all could help. Price aside, what would you guys suggest as my two frags??

I like DEEP blues, greens, reds, and oranges. I was hoping for a monti, and also a branching SPS.

Thanks.

Probably wont be able to have enough light over a pico or enough water volume for stability to keep SPS long term.

But it you just had to try it, I would Maybe a pavona (Green and hardy from my experience), or maybe a green digitata, and for the orange you could go with an orange monti cap. I doubt you will find any thing (Sps wise) that will keep their true colors in a tank that small with inadequate lighting.

Good Luck!
Chris

I'm going with LED lighting over my pico tank, so that should be adequate lighting for SPS. I'm not too worried about that. I'm also doing other things to keep the pico as stable as possible. But I know where you're coming from as far as pico tanks in general being hard to keep stable.

I'll definitely be going with the Oregon tort though, that color is amazing. Just need a really nice monti too choose now.

That sounds like an excellent plan! I have a nice OT down here, but I dont know if I have anything that would be red. Oh wait, I have a tiny frag of Forest Fire Digi that looks great.

Maybe you could find a OT and FF Digi in your area.

For the red, I would recommend the Reverse Superman montipora (aka Mystic Sunset monti). The base is deep red and the polyps are blue (but not entirely blue). Very interesting coral.

Just thinking out loud here...if your only going with 2 sticks you may want to reconsider on the OBT. It's one of my favs, but boy is it a slow grower. For blue you may want to consider ORA Hawkins, Palmers blue millie or a variety of blue stags. I like ORA's Turqouise stag. Good grower, hardy.

The other suggestions of Red Planet, Sunrise, Setosa you can't go wrong with.

combos
1 setosa and blue milli
2 superman monti and tri color valida
3 sunset monti and oregon tort
4 undata and pink lemonade
5 pokerstar monti and pink milli

If possible use the color wheel to choose coral placement too. For example, if you decide to pick up the Rev. Superman, place it near a green slimer. Or place it near an Oregon tort and a pink lemonade.

This will help the colors "pop."

Go with the Oregon Tort and M. Setosa (maybe an encrusting monti); you'll get the great colors as well as slower growth. Just a thought, but you wouldn't want to put a M. Cap or Digitata in a system that small. They grow quite fast. :p Especially if you're going to keep it stable. I hope the plans work out well for you either way!

In the few years that I have been reefing I have never thought about doing that, thanks for the excellent suggestion.

I'm definitely looking for slow growing lol. All the zoa's I'll be adding are also pretty slow growing. I just don't want to fill up my tank right away then have no room to add anything if I want to.
