Alright just want to get your opinion on something.

I have a 50 gal breeder reef tank with 4 VHO bulbs over it. The tank is 18 inches deep, but i have a 2 inch sand bed and rocks built up to the top. I already have 3 clams that are doing great in there and even some sps, do you think I will have any prob getting some clams that have more blue or green in them? I have a feeling metal halide will be mentioned ;)

Your feeling is right! :D Read Daniel Knop's "Giant Clams" and see what he has to say about lighting for Tridacnids.

Like Jim says, get that book by Daniel Knop as it is a good reference book but wish it was updated a little. IMO

I agree if you are going to keep clams and you also stated SPS, then you might consider going with MH's They both need the light intensity.

Until you get the book, I have a link on my clam page about clams by Daniel Knop.

Jim and Toptank are right the BEST way is MH for larger clams! Toptank we need an up to date clam book! What do you think?

Jim,

The last e-mail I received from Daniel we discussed that very thing.

There isn't that much that has changed other than lighting technology regarding lumen and spectral composition.
