Hello all.My need is everyones opinion on lights.Would 2 175w metal halides be too much light in a 55gl tank??What issues make this setup a bad choice??Would this setup provide plenty of light for growing coral and anemenomes??Pls any input here would be greatly appreciated!!Thankx all

It depends on color temperature, the depth of your tank and whether they're intended for reef tanks- but in general, two 175's could be just fine.

That will be some awesome lighting for your 55g, mounted about 8-10 inches from the top of the tank. Just make sure you use a couple fans in the canopy, being your tank is only a 55g, you want to try and keep it cool as MH will heat you up a little during the day.

I have 2x250w of 14k MH over my 90g, which is 5.5w a gallon and it is doing great.

Great, I made my own canopy as well and have my lights about 10" from the water. I am using 2 4" fans and it keep things pretty cool.

Make sure you pull the air from your room and blow that cool air in to the canopy, I have a partial open back on my canopy for the hot air to escape.
