Never realized how LOUD my Remora is until last night

When I decided to turn it off, I actually had a decent nights sleep! Are there any mods that could be done to it, or any skimmers that are quieter? My experience with most skimmers is that they're all usually loud...

my 8-2 is almost dead silent. Remora's are just loud by nature. We have a remora pro on my 100g at work and that thing sounds like a plane taking off.

I remember reading a post where someone put a wet paper towel over something (maybe the injector screw??) and it helped out quite a bit..I will see if I can find the thread.

HTH,
Keith

Sirlight1337: What's an 8-2?

argi: If you have a link to the thread that'll be great, otherwise I'll try searching if I happen to be up at 2am (maybe just keep the Remora on, then I won't fall asleep ;))

an 8-2 is a 8" wide 2 foot tall sump style skimmer. As long as my sump level stays where it should, you dont hear the skimmer at all.

I've got a sump! But that's where all the cheato and pumps live, nowhere near enough room for an in-sump skimmer. I'm planning on plumbing to an external 8" skimmer which I already have, just don't have the time to hook it up yet.

I heard about the paper towel trick also.
I think you just get a paper towel, fold it up and place it right over the chamber where the input is. I think youre supposed to make sure its all covered to baffle most of the noise. I can see how it works but I havent dont it myself.

Mark, just get rid of it. You already have a nice fuge.

Ain't gonna go there, especially now with the new SPS! Three crashes in my career are enough

I'll probably try the paper towl trick in a few minutes... after I eat my fishsticks

Oh my freakin goodness this is amazing, I just folded up a paper towel to cover that left side of the baffle and it is literally silent (or my skimmer just died). I can actually hear things now...

Thanks, you guys rock

BTW you can't beat fishsticks and BBQ sauce for a quick dinner

excellent..I was going to search this AM for the thread, but now I do not have to.

Awesome. I have 2 Remoras and thought of trying this but the sound doesnt bother me so I never think about it when I'm near them. Its good to hear it works well, though.

Now that all that expensive equipment I bought to help care for my fish aren't so darn annoying, let's go eat some fish!

:lmao:

It reduces the noise significantly, however when you sleep you still hear everything. But still.... it's a big difference
