new 2 clams, contemplating getting one.

hey all
i'm new to clams... i'm considering getting one of these beautiful creatures. i hear they have to have alot of light to grow? a buddy of mines has 3 of em in his tank w/ 96w PC. he's had em over 6 months and been talking to me about getting one. i like the squasmosa and the gold maxima clam. what do you guys think...?
can my system handle it? sorry if i'm a total newbie about this.

They do not need light to grow, they need light to live. It's a big difference. They need calcium to grow. IMO I would never keep a clam under pcs. Many have done so and some with good results, but IMO I do not think it's right.

you could fo with a giga or a I cant rember what they are called for the life of me btu it starts with an S. They seem to do pretty good under PC. but dont go with a conca or a maxima

Squamosa are probably the easiest, but I agree with the person above that they really need MH to thrive.

Your bio says you have a 55G with 130W PC? That is not very much light at all.

Agreed. I wouldn't get a clam under that lighting. I've seen WAY too many die!
