New Airport Extreme. New Problems

I am able to access my AC3 through Firefox on my Macbook and also on Safari on the iPad using 10.0.1.21.
I am having issues trying to setup the Aquanotes application on the ipad and also accessing the AC3 remotely.

I was able to do this with my old router but not able to now.

I have the AC3 plugged into an AirPort Express.

For the app I need the Host, Port, User, and Password.

When I go to the AirPort Utility and press on the airport it shows an IP address. I assume that is the Host.
I am having problems with the Port. The AC3 shows port 80 but not sure how to forward in the AirPort Extreme. I have gone to the Port Mapping and created AquaNotes and used 80 for all ports and 10.0.1.21 for the IP address.

When I use the ipad I am unable to connect through the Aquanotes app or outside of my network.

Thanks for any help you can give.

If you are able to reach it on your MacBook using .21 then it is already in that IP using port 80. That is the default port browsers look for. If you want to forward from outside you have to set up you outside IP given by your ISP and foward it to your .21 or set up a dynamic dns. But you still have to point the outside to your network. You forward the Internet port 80 to the AC3 port 80

Is the IP given by my ISP found by using ipchicken or whatsmyip ? When I forward to port 80 or "Map" as Apple calls it, do I use 80 for both private and public TCP and UCP? and then the IP ending in .21?

Thanks for the reply

I left a message with Neptune yesterday and they called me back today. Very nice assistance told me that the AquaNotes iTunes app no longer will work with the AC3. It only works with the apex. Bummer.

I still am unable to connect with my AC3 from outside of my network. I understand how to forward the ports but still it won't work.

Another strange thing is that when I change the port on the AC3 I am no longer able to connect on my network. If I change it to 81,84,222 8080 and so on it will not connect inside my home network. I don't understand why it can only use 80. Something doesn't make sense to me.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This is not correct. The AquaNotes app has not been updated since its initial release in 2009, nor has there been updated AV3 firmware taht would cause an incompatibility. There is absolutely no reason for it not to work provided your network configuration is correct.

The AC3 can work on alternate ports. When you change the http port, you must append that port to the URL. So, if you changed the port to 8080, you must use http://ip-address:8080.

Reeftank21, please post screen shots of your AC3 network settings and your AirPort port mapping. Or feel free to email them to me at russ-at-reeftronics.net

I will do. I just was on the phone with AT&T to see if they block any of the ports. They had me check a setting on my modem but all was set correctly. Thanks for the information at setting the ip address:port, that allowed me to change the port and still access it from the browser.
When I use a port forwarding check tool it continues to show the port is closed. I will post screen shots in a few.

Thanks again

Ah-ha! I keyed right in on ATT. ATT Internet service is DSL, so there has to be something between the Extreme and Internet... betcha a buck it's a 2Wire router! Am I right?

If so, then you need to put the ATT router in DMZplus mode, pointing to the Extreme's Public Internet address. You will also need to make the Extreme's Public IP address a static address... if I'm right, the Extreme's public IP address currently will be 192.168.1.something.

BTW, your port mapping setup looks good. I think your problem likely is that you have 2 daisy-chained routers.

Got your PM. Ok, so the 4100 is acting solely as a modem.

Check the Apex network settings... is the default gateway 10.0.1.1? (The LAN address of the Extreme)

Well.... I was able to get this to work. I would like to share just how it all worked out but really I'm not sure. I see others have problems as well but I don't think I can offer much on how to fix the issues. I think I was having some type of conflict with the IP addresses but that doesn't make much sense because I changed it to .21. I turned off the DHCP and set my ip on the AC3 to .21 so I would not get a conflict.

Here is what I did to make it work.
1. Read above.
2. Turn On DHCP on AC3. IP now ends in .6 instead of .21
3. Did port forward on port 80.
4. Performed port test at http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ now showed that port is open.
5. Tested and all is well.

What I would still like to accomplish. I would like to create some type of static IP for the AC3 so the DHCP will not change the ip. I believe I can do some kind on DHCP reservation but not sure how to setup just yet.

Hope some of this helps others in the future but will most likely only confuse.

I forgot to add that the AquaNotes app from itunes works just fine on an iPad. I was informed that it would not work with an AC3 but it works just fine for me.
