It is the one to the left of the squamosas (& to the lower right of the crocea)
I got him on Friday night. :)

NICE. I'm gonna get me a few more clams. How long have you been keeping clams and have any died on you? One of mine just croaked this morning. :(

I got this one from a friend (can't say his name - but he's local).
I've been keeping clam for about 2 years. Yes, unfortunately I have had some die on me. Some from lack of knowledge & some for unknown (probably internal) reasons.
But I love the clams! Everytime I see something interesting I got to buy it, price allowing of course. Otherwise I'd have lots of tear drops in my tank.
Sorry to hear you had a clam die on you Fish-o-holic. :( That's never a good thing! If you have good water quality & sufficient lighting - try again.

I think my parameters are in check except for the nitrates >10ppm. My calcium is around 400ppm and alk is 8.8 dKh. I bought 2 clams at the same time from the same place and the other one is still doing great. Just the other one died 3 days ago. Oh well, you win some, you lose some...

Very true, last month I lost a maxima great looking green mantle.
One morning there was an empty shell (well almost empty - there were hermits in it). The day before it was fine & in the morning - empty shell. Go figure.

Among posters what is considered sufficient lighting. I have mine under a 175W 13K Aqualine 10000. The bulb is about two weeks old. The clam is about 18 inches from the halide and is in direct light. Should I move it up? It has been gaping when the halide is on, but returning to normal when it is just actinics(2 40W NO).

I know I am tagging along, but I am worried about my 3.5" crocea. I would appreciate any advice if you check out my "to feed or not to feed" thread.

Sorry to but in,
David

I don't mind you butting in at all. This is what it's all about. I just responded to your post. I sure hope I am wrong though with your clam.

Hey Fish-O,
The clam is still doing fine, I guess we will just see. Only time will tell.

Thanks for your encouragement,
David

I'm glad to hear that. Let me know if anything changes in the long run.
