New Blue Dot Jawfish Quick "?"

Hey Guys,
I just recently purchased a blue dot jawfish. Things were going ok so far, but yesterday he didnt come out of his hole all day. He is in a spot that is tucked way back in the rock making it hard for me to reach with food or even target feed. I was wondering if there is anyway to make him move to different spot of the tank that is easier to reach with food? Or will he move over time on his own? I waited almost a year for this guy to come available again I hate to lose him.

Im going to try to he gets maybe 3 mysis shrimp when I feed the tank over there. If I tear some of my rock down and cover up his hole do you think he will move to different spot?

Cover the hole he is in with a plastic soda bottle and shoot some mysis in the upside down bottle, and see if he comes out for it.

Not sure how true this is. I have a yellowhead jawfish and it goes on hiatus for a month at a time and seems just fine. Whenever he decides to pack up and change holes I dont see him for 3-4 weeks then bam, one day its hovering its hole and pulling food out of the water column.

Just because you don't see your jawfish for a day is nothing to be concerned about IMO. I think fish have a higher instinct to survive then we give them credit for. As long as your water parameters are good and the fish feels secure (good hiding places and no one bullying them) your little guy should be fine.

Thanks guys I figured he would be alittle hardier then this i have only had him for three days. I went and got a longer turkey baster no luck with that...so I moved a couple rocks to the other side of the tank to find his body.... it is a sad day for sure....

BSJF are extremely hardy once fully acclimated and ready to go. The thing that I've noticed with mine and others is that they don't do well when they're messed with. If you leave them be they can figure it out. Another thing to NOT do is move a rock over their hole. A lot of people think that they'll move to a new burrow but instead they get locked in and die. I'm am at 4 years with my BSJF and he's been in all kinds of weird places in my tank. You previously said he was only getting 3 mysis a day, when jawfish don't get enough food they will move to a new burrow. Just give them time and it will work out.

indeed. ive starved 3 bluespots just because i couldn't get to em. too much rock work in my tank imo

Just because it died doesn't mean it starved. It takes most sw fish a while to starve. Sorry for your loss. They are beautiful fish but one I avoid due to their track record in captivity.

+1 My BSJF has gone without food provided by me for weeks but I have seen him eat countless amphipods coming from my return.

You should read some of the threads on BSJF. There is a good chance yours didn't just starve, but instead was a victim of collection methods. Someone posted how he went with the collection divers and the good ones squirted spoiled milk into the BSJF burrows and trapped them when they came out (took a while), while the bad collectors squirted bleach in which forced the fish out immediately but also injured them (these ended up dying).
