new clam pic

two weeks now. I pay a fortune for these babies. Typically, a clam only cost 15 dollar for a good 4~6" in taiwan. These 2 I pay them for 60 dollor

Don't feel too bad, a beautiful 8" T. Crocea like that would easily fetch over $100 here in the US (probably even more, in a local fish store).

share another one, this tear dop cost 25 dollar. beautiful clams are hard to find over here. This one is a local clam. This poor guy was badly kept at LFS, a lot of color was lost when I first got it. I felt so sorry for this guy at the time and thought if the lfs kept on keeping him, it will just die. As the result, I brought him home for 25 dollar. It's consider high in Taiwan. This suker has regain most of his color and now it's developing radium Green on it's edges.

I am so jealous lol
LOL. If it makes you feel any better, you can send your clam to me so I can add it to my collection. :p Worth a shot. Hehehe

You have an awesome clam so there should be no shame in that. And apparently you have good tastes in picking out clams. ;)

Nope, I have 6 at the moment, I am going to stop for 6 month before getting another one. I felt like I am adding a bit too fast. every time I add clam, I need to add fish to increase the amonia. I really don't have room for fish anymore. I have 7 fish at the moment. Tow blennie came with the live rock and and has survived the cycle somehow. Attach is my custome clam tank housing 2 150W 10000K HQI AB lamp. a 55W 10000PC for dusk and down. There is a 20 gal sump/refugium at the bottom.

Just beautiful! A really nice tank overall. I don't understand why you feel you need to add a fish for each clam though.

Thanks. It's not that I need to add fish each time. Clam require amonia and nitrate, right? Usually, I kept my nitrate/amonia zero, when I add a new clam, which means more amonia is needed, right? It might be okay if I am just having 6 clams, but when it gets up to 10+, I definitely need more fish then what I have now. My tank is not big enough/having enough room to let that many fish to swim all at once. I don't know that make sense or not?

I'm not an expert but I don't think clams need ammonia but I understand they do need nitrate. There are other ways to increase nitrate without adding more fish though. Less skimming, more food, less frequent water changes - all these would allow you to increase nitrates without adding more fish.

I visited Tropicorium with my brother a couple of month's ago and talking with Mr. Perrin he said that his studies have proven that when he added Ammonia to his vat's the clams grew more. Of course he went into alot more detail and used alot bigger words that my pea brain couldn't understand!
