New Reef Club Forming
A new saltwater interest group is currently forming in the Myrtle Beach area and is inviting participants from all over Horry County, South Carolina. Several individuals (some new to the hobby, some with decades of experience) are organizing a first meeting on Saturday February 9 at 7:00pm. Location TBA here .
Our goals, loosely stated, include
1. Provide a resource, through our activities and contacts, to
beginning saltwater aquarists for guidance in the early steps in this hobby.
2. Form a knowledgeable group of hobbyists to foster the advancement of the hobby, both individually and throughout the community in Horry County.
3. Provide access to members: to activities of educational value; to venues and facilities typically closed to the public; to educators and experts in the field.
We’re looking for interested participants to come to our first meeting in February. I’m hoping to get anyone’s suggestions on topics for future meetings.
Some ideas for topics might include:
Starting out in the saltwater hobby (how to’s and how not to’s)
Solving problems in specific conditions (cyano, unexplained mortalities, water quality)
Group equipment or frag swaps
Showcasing member’s tanks with discussion of methods and results
Specific species husbandry
Reproduction of ornamental marine species
We would appreciate your input and suggestions as to topics and ways in which a local club could make your hobby more personally enjoyable. Follow the link at the top of the thread to inquire or give feedback.
