Here is my first clam, Ultra Crocea. I like how he looks.

Hi thats a beautiful clam. However it is gaping. This condition is indicative of the clam being stressed. What are your water parameters? What lighting do you have on the tank? Maybe the clam needs to be closer to the light? Whatever it may be, the clam isnt too happy I'm afraid. :(

Markk96,

I agree with Sahin that the clam looks to be stressed. Gaping is an indication.

I visited your website to get some info about your tanks specs, lighting and other equipment but saw the site is still in development and that you don't have the info listed as of yet.

Judging from the pictures of your tank, it looks like you have VHO or PC. If that's the case, I would put the clam as high on the rocks as you can possibly put it.

Maxima and Crocea's especially are the prettiest but also the most light hungry clams you can buy. Easy to take care off if you don't move them often, provide high lighting and maintain good water quality.

Let us know what your lighting is like and I'm sure we can provide you with a solution.

To answer your questions, my tank water parms are as follows.

ALK 12.3
Calc 410
MAG 1320
PH 8.3
Temp 80
Salt 1.025

The tank is a 75 Gal, the clam is about 16 inches below 440W of VH0 Actinics and 500W of 10K Coralvue MH's.

Hummm, not sure why it's doing that as your tank specs are right on, atleast I don't see anything you ought to change. Lighting is definitely adequate.

Is it being disturbed/bothered by other tank inhabitants?

It has been moved by me a couple of times. Just a couple of inches left or right, and it has moved itself some. It attached to a rock almost as soon as I put it in the tank 2 weeks ago.

Nothing else bothers it that I have seen.

I dose DT's every few days.

What kind of lights did the clam come from? There may be a chance if the clam was previously housed with MH that weren't so bright, it may be adjust or doesn't like the new environment just yet.

The LFS that Mark bought the clam from uses 400 watt 20K Ushios and 6' Actinic VHOs. I bought two Croceas from the same LFS and have mine under a combo of 400 watt 20K Ushios and 250 watt 10K Ushios and CorlaVues.

My clams were doing fine until my butterflies decided to make a meal out of them. I now have then separated by eggcrate from the butterflies and they seem to be recovering nicely.
