Hi all,

Got in a few boxes of fish last week, and I'm psyched.

All new arrivals co-existing and eating like pigs except one.

A peullus rabbitfish. (sp?)

He arrived starved to the bones and hasn't touched anything now in three days here. Tried Nori, spirulina, frozen algae, zooplankon, red algae, brine shrimp, table shrimp, chaeto. There isnt much algae on the rock, but hes not interested in that either.

Fish is swimming and curious, but sooooo thin. And wont take a bite.

Ideas? I'm worried.

Try soaking your food in some garlic. I had a fish not too long ago that didnt eat for two weeks, then all of a sudden bang.... He's a pig. Hang in there :)

my fish isnt eating either i bought a regal angel that warren told me not to buy but it looked extremely helpeless and i tried saving it but ... nope no can do has not eaten for 5 days and counting.

I hate to say it, but often when a fish arrives in the state that you describe the rabbit fish in, they are beyond the point of recovery :( Sometimes garlic oil acts like an apetite stimulant, so it might be worth a try to soak some food in that. If you do manage to get it to eat, start soaking the food in dewormer (praziquantel) as it is likely to have intestinal worms.

Thanks Bill. I started soaking things in Garlic last night and will persist. I'll follow up if I get him to eat.

I'm ****ed they even shipped this guy, it's obvious he hasnt eaten in quite a while.

I've saved fish in worse states, so I'm hopeful.

Why in the world would you ship fish from what sounds like a crappy internet dealer when you have so many stores to pick your fish--- watch them eat.....

Care to tell us whom to avoid?

reefly,

You should take drive out to Montauk sometime, you'll understand why Justin orders over the internet ;) BTW it is nice way to spend a day with the family and play tourist. It might be a long drive, but the scenery is fantastic :D

BTW, still not eating. Out and swimming, curious, somewhat skittish, but acting social w/ others.

Thin as hell, colors almost totally faded, eyes a bit opaque.

Im hoping tomorrow is better.

Justin, Like other have stated, once the fish stops eating for a period of time, things start to happen inside the digestive track. This is usually irreversible. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not saying the fish is beyond that point; donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t give up until he stops breathing. I received a fox face a few weeks ago, added him to my treated QT for a few days. Would not eat, so I moved him to one of my grow out tanks so not to stress him anymore. He still would not eat. I added a few spoonfuls of crushed garlic to the tank. Forget about soaking it, it takes to long. Added some flake food (at the same time as adding flake food) and after the second day, he start to eat 1 or 2 flakes. Now he is eating very well (w/o any garlic added). You can still soak the food in garlic, but itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s quicker when you first start to just add it directly to the tank. Hopefully this helps and gives you some hope.

Everyone - direct beams of positive reef energy to Justins tank. Visualize a golden aura of health around his rabbitfish, see the MH rippling patterns of light, feel your own appetite for flakes and let the warmth of garlic radiate.

Ok, this is getting annoying. Not eating, looking like a ghost.

His mouth is looking weird. I think he came that way. Top jaw is swollen, open, and red inside.

He has lost almost all color and his eyes are somewhat opaque.

Any ideas what is wrong with his mouth?
