Received 5 Green Chromis along with other stuff yesterday from saltwaterfish.com. Everything acclimated fine. This morning they looked fine. Came home from work and found the largest one at the bottom of the QT tank breathing heavy. The QT tank water is from a main tank water change. Could this be just the result of the group knocking off the odd one? Sent an email to sfw.com but they will not get until Monday.

Your thought? Checking water parameters tonight.

I've tried 3 different times w/ 5 chromis in 3 diff. tanks. Each time I end up w/ 3 .... I am not sure why , just my experience... I think they just thin their own numbers.

based on my research, chromis do better, the bigger the group,
if there a too few then the chances of the same one getting pick on is greater again again until they kill it and onto the next and down the go,

I have had 6 together for a while now and they all get along fine. He may have been weak from shipping. The last time I ordered chromis, I ordered 5 and two died in QT. The other 3 are part of the 6 that are doing well.

I have purchased no less than 10 green chromis over the last 4 years, everytime I thought I would have a better run of luck, I have none left and my parameters are perfect. I have spoke to many people that have had the same problem. No one seems to have an answer to the green chromis mystery...

I have had several groups over the years. They always go down to a pair and I have read many others havingthe same experience. It seems they pair up after time and only one pair will make it in a tank. The pair I have now started as a group of 6, 3 years ago. They do nicely together.

Maybe tank size? Perhaps close quarters in a 10 gal QT makes them picky on each other? Was at Trop last night, they seem to be doing great together in the big tank? BTW, how big are those 2 tanks?

I got 10, and had one by one drop off - one the first night, then two more the first week - I was able to find these.

As the weeks went by, I started missing another here, and another there.

Now I have 4 left - one dominant large, with three smaller. They seem to be doing OK, and I have no idea what happened to the rest. I expect the ones that dropped-off first were weak or sick, but the ones that I lost after a few weeks have me stumped - and I never found them at the bottom of the tank, so what happened to them remains a mystery
