I came home from work the other night and my lights were off wife said ballast started smoking (lucky she was home) she shut them down.I checked it out and ballast seemed bad so I called my LFS and he said he would get me a new one but not until monday or tuesday.I did not want to go without lights that long so I decided to hook up my new lights that I bought awhile ago pendant MH and powercompact unit. (something like 900 watts total) I did not want to set them up until we moved and I got the new tank set-up but had to.WOW what a difference the water looks so much different with the MH it just shimmers looks great.I am almost sorry I did not hook them uo sooner. Now I am almost going to hate going back to my VHO lights when I get them fixed. Just thought I would share this because if anyone is thinking of switching to mh think you and yur corals will like them alot.Scott

Be careful about burning your corals. That much of a light upgrade can cause bleaching, UV burns & fatal shock to your corals. Use it sparingly and keep it a distance above the tank.

ya it is well above the tank and I only keep the mh on for 2 hours then off for 2 and on for 2 I have been running them for a total of about 5 - 6 hours. Thanks Scott
