New Mantis hiding from me.

I just got a <2ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚mantis shrimp (Gonodactylellus I think) and he has been in my nano for about 2 weeks now. My question is, I saw him once on day 3 and havenââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seen him since. Is this normal?? How do I get him to come out?? He shares the mini-bow with a domino juvenile, a few hermits, snails, and corals. I have found 3 dead hermit crabs since his introduction, and the last hermit stays right in front (like he is scared) but I would really like to see this guy. So what do I do??

This is going to sound silly, but fish for him. Wrap a string around ...say.. a peice of shrimp from the fish counter at the store... and run it slow around the tank and he should go for it, if for nothing other than to smack it.

Do you by chance know where he might be hiding ?

if so a bamboo skewer..... ...NOT.... the pointed end..... placed anywhere near the hiding place will cause him to shoot out and smack it silly :D

As for the hermit being scared ... well he is scared ... ...wouldnt you be knowing you're next ?

Just my 2 cents

It's normal. I have mine in a 2 gallon and I didn't see him for a week or so. I took the rock out and looked for him and he had closed in both of his escape/attack routes that I never knew about and had a side hole inside the rock itself. Seems like he was living pretty well.
I have read that they do this at night for protection and/or to molt.

How big is the damsel? The mantis might be intimidated by it. Or maybe it just doesn't see any reason to show itself right now.

I didn't see mine for over a month when I first got it. I thought it died and just when I contimplated getting another it showed up!

maybe that will work,

Ok everybody I am getting another one!! and thats final.
Maybe uncle Murphy is still following me around also.
