New Mantis tank...

Sorry if you came here to see a Mantis tank. I am wanted to ask a question. After I move I would like to get a Mantis Shrimp. Here is what I had in mind for the tank and equipment:

20 gallon tank (not sure if I should do glass or acrylic)
Aquaclear 500
Coralife 24" Aqualight (has one 36 watt 50/50)
Coralife Aqualight 3/4 Watt Lunar Light
Coralife Digital Thermometer
Via Aqua 150 watt Titanium Heater
Thick, but not too thick live sand
A couple of pieces of good size live rock

Well, what do you all think?

It really depends on what type of mantis. If its a small species, that might be overkill, but if its a peacock or other large species, a 20 should be good. Also it depends on if its a smasher (then you might want acrylic), or if its a spearer, you might want to get glass, but you'd have to have a farely deep sand bed, like 3"-5". More info, and we can help you better.

I suppose it *is* overkill, but there is nothing wrong with providing a pristine condition for your shrimp, of course ;). Other than that, I would just worry about tank size. I've never been too worried about glass breakage, but peace of mind may be worth getting an acrylic tank. Also, the size of the shrimp. You'll rarely see a 2" N.Wennerae in a 20G with a lot of LR. A large peacock or something similar might appreciate the larger tank size, however.

I'm about to put a 2" N Wennerae in a 20L but thats just cause I only need the tank. I already have the filtration and light strip sitting in a closet.

I am not...

I am not...

I am not sure what kind of Matis Shrimp I want at this time. The set up that I posted is a 20 gallon and not a 20 gallon long. Just in case I did not say which kind it was. I am now thinking of doing a 20 gallon long. All I would need to switch on my list is the lighting from a 24" to a 30". The height really does not matter does it? At least with a Mantis Shrimp that is. I would like to get a nice size Mantis Shrimp though. I do not want it to get too big though. What would you suggest? I am even thinking perhaps do a tank with a couple of Manis Shrimp (smaller kind of course). What do you guys think? Thanks for all the help.

Oh yeah...

Oh yeah...

The reason why I said I am not sure if I want acrylic or glass for the tank is I need to find out if someone makes or can make an acrylic that will allow my Aquaclear 500 to fit on it. Most acrylics I have seen where set up for over flows and did not allow for a hang on powerfilter. Can you help me on that? Thanks for all the help!
