Hello everyone! I just got my first two mantis shrimps (after about a year and a half of reading about them and searching the internet for info). One is a 11 cm. O. scyllarus and the other is a 7 cm. Pseudosquilla ciliata (bright yellow all over- the only other color on the body are the two tiny black dots that are the eyes).
I have some questions for the board...
First, what size tank would be better for the O. scyllarus, a 20 Long (30"Lx12"Wx12"H) or a 20 High (24"x12"x16")? Currently, it's being housed in a small plastic critter keeper with some sand substrate and a couple of snails). I have heard him on several nights make loud clicking sounds (i assume it's striking the sides of the container), is the strike from one that size capable of breaking aquarium glass? Is it likely?
As for the Ps. ciliata, anybody have any experience keeping these spearers? I plan on keeping it a 10 gallon aquarium. How big do they get?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome 20 gallon long is probably better. As for the ciliata, where did you get it?I have been trying to get one for half a year.

Pet Warehouse on Sunrise Hwy. on Long Island, NY. They also have a medium sized O. scyllarus. The O. scyllarus i got from Fish Town USA in Bayside, Queens (on Northern Blvd.).

welcome to the board!

i think that either tank would be fine. i saw a large O. scyllarus in a 10 hex that was really a neat set-up tho a bit small IMO.
