new metal halide bulb... which one?

I will be setting up a 50 gallon tank. It measures 36" x 18" x 19".

I have a 400 watt ballast that I will put on it and there will be a PFO parallel reflector behind the bulb.

I will probablly put one 3' actinic VHO on there later on.


I am considering putting a hamliton 14K; but I would like something with better PAR values.

My question is what MH bulb would you guys put on there?

the tank will be dominated by LPS and SPS corals

... some softies like zoas and 'shrooms in there also

I like the hamilton 14k's alot. If you are going with a 400 i don't think you will have issues with low par values. My reef gets along fine with 175 watt iwasaki 15k's.

iwasaki 15K's are very nice with a bit of actinic.

I wish they made them in 400 watt... If they do and you know where to get them, please tell me.
