New ozone setup - pump and dryer question

Hello all -

I just scored all this stuff from Craigslist for $75. Recently I got an Apex with ORP probe, and for $75, figured this was a cheap way to learn something new.

2 questions:
I realize the air going into the generator needs to first go through that dryer (once I bake the silica stuff to get it active again). Do I need a pump, or will the generator be powerful enough to pull the air through it alone?

Other question - I obviously need a pump from my sump to the main ozone reactor. I'll be using the second reactor for carbon. How powerful of a pump should I get? The guy included a pump, but I'm not sure what it's for.

Nice Score! Yeah, you'll need the air pump to push air through your drier, into the reactor, and then onto whatever else you're gonna use. In my case I use the ozone 4 different times during the day with my skimmer.

Use that luft pump and push air through the air dryer and then into a reaction chamber. The water exciting the reason chamber goes into a carbon reactor then into my tank.

Gotcha. So how big of a water pump is needed for the reactors?
 
I would contact Avast Marine via their website through email and ask what size pump. It looks like you have their smallest reactor size. They used to have a chart on their website, but they discontinued selling their ozone reactors.

That was a good deal; the air pump alone is $60 - $70.

I actually did just that. Thanks. So this is considered "small"? The thing is, like, 2 feet tall. My tank is starting to look like a mad scientist project!
 
The sizes of their ozone reactor were I, II, and III. And they gave typical water flow rates for the pumps to be used with them. There's a Dwyer air meter that is supposed to be used in conjunction with the reactor so you can know how much air is being pumped in. This is done instead of having a pressure guage attached to the lid. (I like the pressure guage idea a little better.) The reactors are supposed to run at a certain pressure. Ask them if they can email you the operating instructions for the ozone reactor. That way, you will have all the information for future use too.

You'll need some kynar air check valves and some ozone safe tubing from US Plastics and probably a spare dessicant container with spare silica so you can swap them out.

I have a Avast O3 reactor. Use a Luft pump to pump thru air dryer, thru ozonizer, then thru reactor. It's plenty powerful. In the old days, the venturi of the skimmer was what I used to suck o3 in, no air pump of any kind was needed.
