This is a continuation of the following thread:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=729513

Moderator Geo stated that it will be ok to have a new thread as long as it is about the product itself and not a repeat of the previous thread.

Summary of previous thread: The Reef Octupus Skimmer are clones of the high power/tier skimmers that most are using currently. The manufacturer of this product currently has one U.S.A. supplier, Pacific Coast Imports, who distributes these to local retailer.

Please add your comments, experiences, and non-flaming opinions about the product here.

Great work on keeping this thread going, I was one step away from getting one of these wantabee deltec's before it went downhill in the other thread. Lets see some action out of these skimmers, more pic's please.

i would love to find the short version of the big model can anyone point me to finding somewhere i could order online

the recirc model carried by pacific coast that would suit my tank is to tall for my sump where are the one shown in the pic at 600 mm would fit

thanks for the links they have all of them but they do not have the short versions which sucks as i only have 24.5 inches in my cabinet

I would like to see a comparison done between these and the ASM Skimmers. Which one is better, pump design. The ASM comes apart before the neck to clean the base easier these don't.

I am no genius, but couldnt you buy the:

and say you can compare it to:

http://www.asmskimmer.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=48

Couldnt you just do the recirc mod and gate valve mod to get a way better skimmer? I mean for 189.99 + 20 for ground thats only 209.99.

This is a bargin if what I am thinking would work. Take two of these:

http://www.asmskimmer.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=44

Dril two holes and now boom you have a nice little skimmer. So what if this pump is crap or goes bad in a year or two, just replace it with a sedra 9k :smokin:

I mean tell me if I am wrong in my thinking here.....

Actually the pump is made by the same company that makes Ocean Runner pumps. So I don't think they're crappy IMO.
And yes you are correct that it would be very simple to do a recirc mod on that skimmer versus paying the $400 and change for the recirculation model.

Then no offence to anyone here on RC that has spent 500-1k on a skimmer, but after seeing this why would you? I could run two of these on the 400g system I building now and be way better off in the long run, by my pocket book and skimming

Just like anything in this world I dont get why us americans toss money out the window for names on products, etc... I buy what works best for the application at hand at the cheapest price, period.

Because most of us have been brainwashed into thinking that "You get what you paid for"

Nevermind that a skimmer is merely a plastic tube with a pump and it isn't exactly rocket science to build one. I have never understood why Deltec and ER can charge such ridiculous prices.

because some people feel thats what it costs to have a good skimmer which we all know is bulldung get a picture of ure favortie expensive skimmer and take it to a acrylic shop and see what they will charge u to build one gaurantee its at gonna be at least 2/3 less

I am after the 24" as well, it looks as if no retailer carries it in the states yet. And also as far as the downdraft model, I seen one on ebay for $150.

The Resun Pumps are basically the same as Sedra, Sen, Dolphin in feature. Internally, there may be something different.

The performance to me is the same as a Sedra. I currently have a Resun that puts out 1340 gph which works nicely, but it vibrates so much that it makes a loud humming under my stand.

Others have used the Resun and turned it into a Sedra NW clone which basically save you 30 dollars or so
