new ritteri anemone

No, they are wrong!
Neither good flow, light, or water quality will get this anemone over the infection and back to health.
What it needs is treatment with Cipro. And that ASAP!
I would also inform Life Aquaria that the anemone is sick and that you are treating it with antibiotics.

but it does have that gash and tear in it.. it looks horrible right now esp with the tear and gash. how will cipro fix that?
(I know they were wrong though lol :) )

I don't think anyone is arguing that the Cipro will help the gash/tissue damage if that's what's going on. They are just saying that given the behavior of the nem, it is suffering from some sort of illness which needs to be treated with Cipro, independent of the fact that it has tissue damage.

It would be like a human with a disease and also an arm ripped off. You would still medicate to treat the disease even though it won't do anything for the arm.

Treating for the illness won't necessarily help with the flesh trauma, but it will give the nem a better shot at recovering if it isn't also fighting a sickness.

Yes, this is exactly what we're saying. The rip is independent of the fact that it probably has a bacterial infection.

In my experience, the rip won't kill it, but the infection surely will.

I've had a couple of nems have a run in with a MP40. I simply removed the ripped/dead tissue and the nem recovered on its own. Both times.

crap.. i just have fish sulfa forte. I do not have cipro. I somehow thought the sulfa forte = cipro

Edit.. the protocol says Sulfa forte can be used // the ritteri looks like a mess. I dont see how it can recover.
see pic in next post It's 10 days since I got it, so at least 10 days it's been sick and with tear/gash.

Yep!
My last purple gig went on a stroll and had a run-in with a 200W heater. It got badly burned in a few places on its oral disk rim. I just removed the dead tissue. It never even deflated or looked too upset and now, about a week later it is pretty much back to normal.
If healthy, these anemones can handle getting chunks bitten out of them - it happens in the wild quite regularly.

I'v seen worse looking anemones recover.
The key is to treat as soon as possible.

Most here got better results with Cipro than Septra, but if Septra is all you have it's better than nothing. I would start treating right away.
I would also order Cipro (Fish Flox) right away and switch to treating with it as soon as it arrives.

I just ordred the cipro... wont be here until mid next week if I'm lucky. Shoudl I dose just what the protocol says to for the forte? I'm goign to have to use a 'zet' light led for lighting. I'll set up really fast my 7 gallon mini bowfront. The zet can easily mount on there as I have a while ago. Tank is smaller than 20 as recommended, but I think it will be fine. I'll keep temp stable as possible. A heater I think would actual make it less stable given the small volume of water. I WIth my ac I should be able to keep it +/2 degrees max all day so 77-79 swing.

Last friday I went to take the nem out to treat it. It came half apart just by taking it out of the tank. tentacles and pieces all over. I had to flush it :-/. I know I'll get people saying I still should treat the blob remaining. Maybe waht I did was wrong. But at least next time I'll have the treatment on hand right away if this happens again.

When it comes apart like that it's done and no treatment can bring it back.

The thing is, you should have started treating it much earlier when there was still a chance to save it.
