New tank , cant drill, sump question

My tank i have was one that i have had for awhile and would like to use, i can not drill it though, so i am curious and dont see a problem with pumping water up to a sump and letting it be gravity fed back into the tank to avoid any flooding or such since i cant put a overflow in the tank????

Yes, the sump can go above the display if that is what you are asking.
